Water/Wastewater Engineer

Role description Arcadis is seeking a Water/Wastewater Engineer to join our Resilience Water Team in Mobile, Alabama. The role requires a self‑motivated engineer who can lead design efforts, mentor junior staff, and execute projects within the municipal Water / Wastewater market. Role accountabilities Provide leadership, technical knowledge, and experience to advance our design team capabilities. Lead project tasks in collaboration with project managers and clients, covering planning, design, permitting, and construction of wastewater and/or reclaimed water facilities, including treatment facilities and conveyance systems. Prepare detailed engineering calculations and analysis, utilizing design software to solve complex issues. Manage and lead condition assessment evaluations for water/wastewater system assets, such as treatment facilities, pipelines, and pump/lift stations. Develop and meet scope, delivery schedules, and project budgets for each assignment. Work with project managers and area managers to determine needs, provide solutions, and participate in the preparation of winning proposals and presentations. Strengthen client relationships through professionalism and technical expertise during all client meetings. Supervise and support the work of others, mentoring junior-level engineers and design/drafting technical staff. Ensure project compliance with all Arcadis practices, quality, and safety standards. Some travel may be required for project meetings, site visits, client meetings, and construction oversight. Qualifications & Experience Required Qualifications At least 7 years of experience in water/wastewater design, including leading design projects and managing multi‑disciplinary design teams. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Structural, or a related field. Professional Engineer (PE) license in Alabama or the ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months of hire. Key Skills/Attributes Strong written and oral communication skills. Excellent technical writing and documentation management, including project drawings, specifications, schedules, cost estimates, permit applications, RFIs, and as‑built drawings. Client relationship skills and a proven track record of delivering engineering projects that meet client expectations. Preferred Qualifications Primary focus on the water/wastewater municipal market with experience in permitting and construction of water and wastewater process mechanical systems. Familiarity with distribution, conveyance, and pumping and storage facilities in the Gulf region. Master’s degree in Mechanical, Structural, or Civil Engineering, or a related field.
