Welding Technologist

Job Title and Location Welding Technologist – Charlotte, NC Job Summary The major function of this position is to perform advanced welding and materials research using equipment in EPRI’s state‑of‑the‑art Welding Lab. The focus is mechanized arc welding with frequent expansion to other welding and materials testing equipment. Responsibilities Support EPRI project/program needs for hands‑on welding activities in the lab. Work under supervision of EPRI Project Managers to establish test requirements and scope. Support development of welding apparatus and evaluation of equipment capabilities. Develop unique welding procedures and process parameters for emerging needs such as new applications, materials, or technology. Document all process parameters, equipment settings, and test data for each project. Provide occasional support to machine shop or facilities if required. Provide technical assistance and advice to Engineers, PMs, and Program Managers with minimal supervision. Develop data, analysis, and systems that improve R&D results and internal efficiencies. Function as a senior technical advisor in laboratory analysis and testing. Plan work and carry out assignments with considerable freedom, determining methods and procedures on new assignments. Perform engineering or scientific services including tests, evaluation, technology planning, systems architecture, requirements development, concept development, systems design, integration, operation, construction, logistics support, modeling, and simulation. Education and Experience High School Diploma with 10 years of welding discipline experience, including all common arc welding processes, mechanized/automated systems, and weld tooling. Associate Degree in Welding Technology with 3+ years of related experience. Bachelor of Science in Welding Engineering Technology with experience in mechanized/automated systems and weld tooling. Skills and Attributes Exercise judgment, diligence, and attention to detail; carry out responsible technical assignments. Work effectively as part of a team. Intermediate verbal and written communication skills. Collaborate with subject‑matter experts and contractors on research tasks. Familiar with standard MS Office suite. Manage time to support multiple projects. Rapidly learn new equipment and processes. #J-18808-Ljbffr
