Major Responsibilities Provide clear, timely communication to the RN regarding observations and changes in patients (e.g., skin condition, vital signs, mental status). Provide constant observation of high‑risk patients as assigned. Participate in the development and maintenance of a safe environment; use interventions to de‑escalate patients and, if necessary, assist with restraints per training. Assist patients with daily living activities (personal hygiene, ambulation, meals, nourishment). Assist in moving, lifting, positioning, and transporting patients using proper safety techniques and body mechanics. Perform patient safety checks and use fall‑prevention strategies; follow restraint policy. Take and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry); measure height and weight. Perform ECGs, point‑of‑care tests, bladder scans per hospital standards; collect, label, and prepare specimens for the lab. Perform phlebotomy in assigned locations. Assist in unit‑specific procedures (battery changes, equipment checks, cleaning, storage of supplies). Assist nurses or licensed practitioners with treatments and procedures (IV lines, hemodynamic lines) and use sterile technique when indicated. Observe, measure, and record oral intake and tube feeding; refill tube feeding bags; perform ostomy care. Replenish patient and unit supplies and equipment. Keep current with hospital and unit changes through communication boards, emails, and notices. Participate in meetings, conferences, seminars as required. Demonstrate use of quality improvement in daily operations. Comply with all health and safety regulations and departmental policies. Respect diverse views and demonstrate standards of respect; contribute to a professional, tolerant, civility environment. Maintain reliable attendance. Perform other similar duties as required. Position Qualifications License / Certification / Education Required Minimum of a high school diploma or GED. Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of employment. Experience / Skills Required Ability to read, write, and communicate in English clearly and concisely. Basic computer skills. Basic medical terminology knowledge. Ability to remain calm under stress or in emergency situations. For PCT II level: Demonstrated competency at PCT I level, at least 800 hours and 6 months experience, or prior inpatient/outpatient care experience. Strong interpersonal skills and problem‑solving abilities for routine situations. Unless certification, licensure, or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed may be substituted for the above requirements. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions Position requires work indoors in a patient care environment. Hand dexterity, hearing, and vision are needed to take direction from a patient or provider, adjust equipment, and observe patient conditions. The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Work is of heavy demand, standing and walking most of the time with the possibility of pushing heavy equipment and bending frequently.
