Location: South Dade Maintenance, 14655 SW 122nd Ave., Miami, FL 33186 Salary: $40,854.67 - $52,870.74 per year (plus $1,934.40 CAD additive). Payment is biweekly. Citizenship: Candidates must be U.S. citizens or lawfully authorized alien workers. Visa sponsorship is not available. The Work You Will Do This position serves as a hands‑on lead worker within FDOT District Operations, providing leadership, coordination, and technical support for highway maintenance activities with an emphasis on concrete operations and heavy equipment. Responsibilities include coordinating daily maintenance operations for highways, bridges, and transportation infrastructure, directing crew workflows to ensure deadlines, work objectives, and safety standards are met, and assisting with planning, inspections, materials coordination, and operational documentation such as crew activity reports and vehicle logs. The role involves performing manual labor, operating medium‑to‑heavy equipment, conducting pre‑and post‑trip inspections, performing preventative maintenance, and assisting with equipment repairs. The position also oversees Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) implementation in accordance with FDOT standards, promotes workplace safety, and supports crew development through training, communication, and leadership. Your Specific Responsibilities Coordinate, participate, and direct the maintenance activity of the assembly and erection of highway signs as needed. Assist in selecting materials, supplies, equipment, inspecting, planning workloads, workflows, deadlines, work objectives, and time utilization with employees. Maintain records of operations and prepare and maintain daily paperwork such as crew activity reports and daily vehicle check lists. Perform manual labor in the maintenance of highways, bridges and other highway facilities using a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools. Operate vehicles and a variety of medium and heavy equipment upon receipt of the required CDL Instructional permit or license; perform preventative maintenance and pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections on equipment operated. Perform light maintenance and servicing work in connection with any type of equipment operated and assist in the repairs of this equipment (check/add fluids, adjust brakes, maintain tire pressure, etc.). Perform Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic). Motivate crew members to improve the quality of work performed and assist in the evaluation of others. Communicate regularly with employees both individually and in crew meetings. Train crew members in basic Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic). The Successful Candidate Will Have the Following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of: Mathematical calculations; standard safety rules and procedures; procedures, techniques and use of medium/heavy equipment in the maintenance and repair of highways, bridges and/or other highway structures; crew leading principles and practices. Skills in: Operating hand and power tools; operating and performing minor maintenance on medium/heavy equipment and vehicles; filling out reports and forms and maintaining accurate records; communicating verbally and in writing, including following oral/written instructions. Ability to: Train others; read and understand job‑related materials; develop and maintain effective working relationships; lift, carry, and handle up to 50 pounds; stoop, climb, squat, push, pull, crawl or bend frequently; work outdoors in various weather conditions, terrains and heights or in high traffic; stand for extended periods; work independently and make job related decisions. Other Job-Related Requirements Due to the nature of this position, the incumbent must respond to emergencies when necessary. Candidates must possess a valid Class E driver’s license, obtain a Class B CDL Instructional Permit within 60 days of appointment, and obtain a Class B CDL with air brakes within 10 months. While on‑duty, the incumbent must be readily available to operate a CMV, and the position requires certification in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) at the Intermediate Level. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency (or one year experience in infrastructure construction or maintenance). Class E driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Class B CDL Instructional Permit within 60 days and Class B CDL with air brakes within 10 months of appointment. Driving Record Requirements: A driver must not have more than three moving violations in the past three years with accumulated points, two convictions of reckless driving, a suspension or revocation of the license for moving violations, or a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test or a DUI conviction in the past four years. Applicants must register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s FMCSA Clearinghouse and undergo a mandatory drug screening.
