Clinical Instructor - Surgical Technology

ABOUT US QUALIFICATIONS Educational Requirements: Must be a Certified SurgicalTechnologist. Experience Requirements: Faculty must be qualified byeducation and experience. The Clinical Instructor must have aminimum total of three years of experience, either in the operatingroom scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or acombination of both, within the past five years. Must possess acredential in the field of surgical technology through a nationalcertification program that is accredited by the National Commissionon Certifying Agencies (NCCA). Will collaborate with the ClinicalManager, the Schedule Coordinator and/or the EducationalCoordinator for the Operating Room. Will possess good interpersonalskills in relating to students, clinical personnel andphysicians. JOB DESCRIPTION The Clinical Instructor will be a clinical resource person for theSurgical Technology students and will be responsible for theirassignments, when applicable, observing students during their clinical rotation andcompleting clinical evaluations. Duties of Position Assigns appropriate cases to each student when applicable orcommunicate with the OR Educator/Charge Nurse to determineappropriate student placement. Monitors each student's progress throughout the course of theclinical rotation, through weekly site visits or in the directionof the clinical site. Makes himself/herself available for students' questions andlearning needs. Exhibits professional behavior and serves as a role model forstudents. Promotes patient and student safety. Creates a positive and supportive learning environment, includingbeing an advocate for the student's status as a learner. Makes systematic observations and objective judgements aboutstudent performance. Observes each student individually once a week. Completes a weekly electronic survey documenting the student’sprogress. Gives each student timely feedback about his/her performance,providing suggestions for improvement. Met regularly with the Program Coordinator to maintain productivetwo-way communication between the program and Operating Roompersonnel. Midway and at the end of each rotation, prepares a ClinicalEvaluation Form, documenting the progress of each student. Provides feedback to the program about current department/hospitalpolicies or changes in practice in the field and makes suggestionsfor program modifications or improvement. Participates in continuing education seminars and in professionaldevelopment opportunities to maintain current state-of-the-artknowledge and skills. Attends two (2) meetings a year with the Program Coordinator andfaculty to discuss program goals, policies and educationalmethodologies. Note: It is recognized that division of the duties of the ClinicalInstructor may vary among clinical sites.
