Empower students to thrive by providing specialized instruction as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired in a supportive educational environment. This contract position offers an opportunity to create meaningful change for students who are blind or have low vision, using individualized approaches and adaptive strategies to enhance their learning experience.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid state licensure or credential as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience working with students who have a range of visual impairments
- Expertise in braille instruction, low vision strategies, and adaptive technology
- Proficiency developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Strong collaboration skills with educators, specialists, and families
- Flexible, creative, and dedicated to inclusive education principles
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction in core academic subjects and compensatory skills such as braille, assistive technology, and orientation & mobility (with collaboration)
- Adapt classroom materials and assessments to ensure accessibility for visually impaired students
- Conduct assessments to determine students’ needs and monitor progress
- Offer consultation and training for school staff on best practices and accommodations for visually impaired learners
- Participate actively in IEP meetings and contribute to student planning and review
- Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and educational teams about student progress and support strategies
