Social Worker, Brooklyn Felony Diversion

Opportunity The Brooklyn Mental Health Court (BMHC) and the Brooklyn Felony Alternative to Incarceration (Felony ATI) Programs provide diversion services to individuals charged with felony offenses who are living with serious mental illness or who are not eligible for other treatment courts. As a Social Worker for these programs, you will conduct psychosocial assessments, coordinate wrap‑around services, provide trauma‑informed case management, monitor compliance, and report to the court and other stakeholders. You will work closely with the Clinical Director, interdisciplinary teams, and community partners to ensure high‑quality, evidence‑based services. Key Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive psychosocial clinical assessments, draft reports, and provide recommendations to court parties for services and treatment; Provide clinically‑informed case management for substance use, mental health, trauma, domestic violence, housing, and educational/vocational needs; Manage and monitor compliance with treatment mandates, including care coordination and obtaining compliance updates for the court; Ensure provision of high‑quality, evidence‑based, culturally responsive assessments and treatment services; Provide written and verbal participant reports to the court and other court staff as needed; Coordinate and collaborate with a consulting psychiatrist and other community providers; Work with the Clinical Director and team to develop policies, procedures, and data collection; Support clients presenting to the clinic with crisis or imminent needs; Conduct intakes and needs‑based screenings for newly mandated clients; Maintain client information in electronic databases and paper files; Refer clients to community‑based organizations for additional services; Establish and maintain linkages with community partners; Attend court to assist clients, provide coverage, and attend case conferences; Provide clinical guidance on trauma‑informed practices to team members; Assist with the development and implementation of new initiatives and evidence‑based interventions; Perform administrative duties including data collection and grant reporting as needed; Attend required staff meetings and trainings; Participate in community‑based events when required; Perform other relevant tasks as necessary. Qualifications LMSW with at least 3–4 years of experience in criminal justice or a related field. Must hold a current New York State license. Excellent written communication skills and a strong ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment. Experience with the criminal justice system, justice‑involved communities, and especially with youth, domestic violence, mental health, substance use, or homelessness is a plus. Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
