Technical Specialist - MLS

Hourly Pay Range $35.16 - $54.50 – The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors. Position Highlights Position: Technical Specialist - MLS Location: Northwest Community Hospital Full Time/Part Time: Full Time Hours: Monday-Friday, 7am-3:30pm, rotating weekends and holidays Required Travel: Yes What You Will Do Perform patient tests, manually and with automated clinical laboratory equipment, reagents, and/or test methodologies. Review patient test results for accuracy and notify appropriate clinical personnel or all critical results, documenting this notification per established protocols. Recognize abnormal or unusual test results and make appropriate decisions before releasing results. Perform quality control per established departmental protocols, record QC appropriately and take corrective action when QC is not within established guidelines, documenting corrective action taken. Perform instrument checks, maintenance and troubleshooting per department protocols. Maintain competencies in accordance with policy and procedures of the hospital and laboratory department. In conjunction with the lead, supervisor, manager, or director, establish a QC program in specialty, appropriate for the testing performed and delineate the parameters for acceptable levels of analytical performance. Ensure quality control testing is performed on schedule, review results and take corrective action when appropriate. Communicate significant/unresolved issues to supervisor, manager, or director for resolution. Prepare, maintain, and review documentation on QC materials and reagents. May oversee proficiency testing in area of specialty. May assist supervisor, manager, or director in developing and implementing protocols for validation of new procedures/methods and equipment. Actively promote patient satisfaction and customer service values with all staff members. Instruct and encourage coworkers to treat patients and customers (nurses, physicians, visitors, vendors etc.) courteously. Participate in continuing education programs, in-services, lab meetings and various committees. Maintain a safe work environment by using required PPE and protective devices. Handle biohazardous materials and chemicals according to established protocols. Maintain inventory and supplies within respective departments. Perform computer functions efficiently, manage workload and established turnaround times. Assist in orientation and training of new employees and students. May assist in competency assessment of moderate and high complexity testing. Maintain a broad knowledge of all laboratory departments. May cross-train into other areas of the lab as needed. Other projects or duties as assigned. What You Will Need Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in medical laboratory technology preferred. American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification or American Medical Technologists (AMT) preferred.
