Overview The Nurse Practitioner, licensed under NY State Education Law section 6910, provides primary healthcare per approved policies, demonstrating accountability and advocating for patient rights. Specializing in geriatric care, the NP assumes clinical, educational, research, and performance improvement roles within the Nursing Department. Responsibilities Maintain current knowledge through self-directed learning and educational programs. Assess health status via history and physical exams. Initiate treatments, interpret findings, and modify care plans, including prescribing medications according to protocols. Provide direct clinical care and transmit expertise to patients. Document findings and care plans accurately. Collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams to optimize patient outcomes. Serve as a consultant for geriatric patients, especially regarding skin integrity and pressure ulcers, and collaborate on treatment plans. Develop and implement educational programs and policies for patient care and staff training. Deliver patient care with awareness of growth and development stages relevant to patient age groups. Participate in approved research studies. Promote a positive nursing image through community programs and departmental participation. Adhere to departmental policies, safety, and infection control standards. Qualifications Requirements: Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with current NYS licensure and registration. Excellent clinical experience. ANCC certification. At least 2 years of leadership experience (e.g., charge nurse, team leader). Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Preferred: NP experience in Behavioral Health.
