Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute an equivalent rate for the required experience. Responsibilities Hire, train, schedule, assist and provide oversight of Large Animal Support Staff to maintain a clean/sanitary and functionally organized clinical service area in accordance with hospital protocols and Bio‑Security directives. Duties include cleaning, stripping, scrubbing and disinfecting stalls, hallways and procedure areas. Utilize chemical cleaning and disinfection agents in a safe manner. Loading, handling and disposal of trash, bio waste and hazardous material. Assist with the induction and recovery of anesthetized patients. Maintain, order and manage supply inventory and replenishment of stock including sanitation supplies, fuel, shavings, feed and hay. Keep facilities in good condition (making repairs as needed), and maintain hospital, barns, fences and grounds in an attractive, sanitary and functional manner appropriate for public visitation. Proactively monitor grounds including weed and pest management, mowing pastures, fertilizing, dragging and watering grounds as needed. Notify Veterinary Hospital Management of any facilities or equipment in need of repair. Arrange, perform and track maintenance service checks and repairs to assigned equipment. Under the direction of Veterinary Medical staff, assist with feeding, grooming, restraining or exercising patients and administer topical medications and hydrotherapy including loading and unloading. Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree and four years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute an equivalent rate for the required experience. Work Schedule This is a full‑time position working varying days of the week (weekends and holidays included), varying shifts and “on‑call duty”. Schedule may vary due to staff meetings, coverage, inventory deliveries, or other reasons related to clinic operation as required for training and coverage. Answering phone calls for assistance from staff, outside of normal working hours, is required on a regular basis. Although the majority of time will be spent at the clinic in Gainesville, FL, this position may also travel to the hospital in Ocala as needed. This individual is considered essential personnel, which may include reporting to work at any of the UF Veterinary Hospitals during Main Campus closures. Expected Salary $48,024 - 64,728; commensurate with education and experience Preferred Qualifications Previous experience working in an environment that required handling and restraining horses daily. Previous experience supervising workers. Previous experience handling other large farm animals. At least one year of experience utilizing equipment in farm facility maintenance. Minimum and Preferred qualifications as listed above, experience within the past 2 years. Minimum and Preferred qualifications as listed above, experience within a veterinary hospital setting. General understanding of equipment used in a veterinary medical teaching hospital. Bilingual - Spanish/English.
