Description:
The telemetry unit has 33 beds.
Nurse to patient ratios vary based on acuity and are typically 1:4-6.
The unit predominantly cares for cardiac patients, including those recovering from cardiac surgery, thoracotomies, and patients needing telemonitoring for conditions like atrial fibrillation.
Registered Nurses are required to titrate drips, excluding pressors, paralytics, and TPA.
There is a charge nurse on each shift, who usually takes an assignment.
Patient care techs are available with a typical ratio of 1:15.
The unit utilizes CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen; registered nurses will assist in placing patients on and off these devices, while respiratory therapists set the rates.
Centralized telemetry monitoring is in place, but registered nurses must read the telemetry strips once per shift and with any changes in patient rhythms.
Self-scheduling is available but may be adjusted for a balanced schedule.
Weekend requirements include six weekend shifts in a six-week cycle.
Holiday requirements are two summer holidays and three winter holidays.
Floating to other floors may be necessary.
Scrub color is Galaxy Blue.
Charting is done using the EPIC system.
