Job Summary

At this time, only current PSEG employees are being considered.

Position will have a key role in the Distributed Power Systems Group in the investigation and analysis of the distribution systems. The selected candidate will support distribution system studies, hosting capacity analysis, power quality studies, DER screening methodologies and applications, and planning/system operational studies. The role requires strong expertise in CYME, distribution system analysis, and DER integration studies. The position will also participate in power quality investigations in the field.

As an employee of PSE&G, during storm/outage restoration efforts, may be required to perform functions different from normal operations and the regular work schedule. May also be required to work in an alternate location.

Job Responsibilities

• Lead the investigation and resolution of distribution circuit issues (overloads, voltage violations) by modeling scenarios in power system software (such as CYME) and analyzing data sources such as SCADA and AMI.
• Conduct distribution power flow analysis, identify issues (voltage, thermal, fault level, etc.) and provide recommendations.
• Perform CYME-based Hosting Capacity Analysis (HCA) and support automation of study workflows.
• Perform power quality analysis using AMI, SCADA, monitoring devices, and field measurements.
• Review and perform Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 DER screen processes in CYME and Power BI.
• Validate circuit models against field conditions.
• Support development of Power BI dashboards to assist planners with DER screening and hosting capacity processes.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to implement DER integration and operational efforts using CYME, DERMS, and other utility software platforms.
• Prepare technical reports, study documentation, and standard operating procedures.
• Investigate power quality issues, both residential and commercial. Customer facing role having direct interaction with large and small customers; aiding the review, analysis, and solution finding of customer complaints and power quality concerns. Works to resolve customer complaints while educating customers during process and directing troubleshooting efforts of divisional resources as necessary to find resolution for customer.
• Must have the initiative and ability to work independently on most issues with limited supervision.
• Must have demonstrated ability to manage multiple issues and projects.
• Must have ability to effectively interact with internal and external groups.
• Proven ability to present technical information to an audience.
• Responsible for providing oversight, guidance and direction to technical teams.

Job Specific Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with at least 8 years of relevant work experience.
• Requires strong working knowledge of power flow, short circuit, stability, loss of load, steady state, and transient studies.
• Experience with CYME strongly preferred.
• Strong individual initiative and ability to work independently on most technical issues.
• Clear and concise writing and verbal communications skills.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
• Must foster an inclusive work environment and respects all aspects of diversity.
• Applicant must have effective problem-solving and decision-making; strong planning and organizing skills; must be adaptable and be results-oriented.
• Working knowledge of industry standards and codes such as NESC, IEEE, ANSI.
• Experience performing power system studies on distribution systems with DER integration and operation.

Desired

• PE license, or advanced technical training
• Advanced technical or engineering degree/MBA
• Direct field experience in the construction, maintenance, design, or operation of overhead and/or underground distribution circuits
• Experience developing Powerpoint presentations
• Experience with transient tools like PSCAD or EMTP
• Knowledge of SQL and Python
