What will I be making?
Precision parts produced to predetermined specifications on Swiss-type CNC equipment.
How will I spend my time?
- Study product drawings and decide how to machine each feature.
- Write or edit programs at the control (or from CAM) for efficient toolpaths.
- Set up Citizen and Tsugami Swiss lathes: tooling, bar stock, guide bushing.
- Run first pieces, adjust offsets, and verify dimensions with inspection tools.
- Document results and complete all accompanying paperwork.
What makes a Swiss lathe different?
Stock advances through a guide bushing so turning occurs right next to a point of support. Because the spindle feeds the work past the tool, these machines excel at long, slender turned parts that benefit from that constant support.
Do I have the right background?
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Hands-on exposure to machinery and shop environments.
- Math proficiency and a foundation in metalworking.
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software is a plus.
What tools will I touch?
- Tsugami and Citizen Swiss CNC lathes
- Common metrology tools for in-process inspection
- CAD/CAM (helpful, not required)
