Position Overview Primary City/State: Mesa, Arizona Department Name: Banner Staffing Services-AZ Work Shift: Varied Job Category: Nursing Flexibility and rewarding careers are core to our team. As an RN with Banner Staffing Services, you will self‑schedule a minimum of 2 shifts per month and must be able to schedule at either the Tucson campus or South campus Observation units. Opportunities include both Day and Night shifts. Unit Details Banner University Medical Center‑South : The Outpatient Observation Unit (OOU) has 9 beds and serves patients with a wide variety of medical comorbidities. Patients stay typically less than 24 hours. All beds have telemetry monitoring and are positioned around the nurse’s station for close monitoring and strong teamwork. BUMCS is working toward Magnet, Level 3 Trauma, and Primary Stroke designation. Banner University Medical Center‑Tucson has 2 OOUs: a 20‑bed unit (4NW) and a 16‑bed unit (1NW). Observation Units provide highly coordinated short‑term treatment and assessment. Within 48 hours, patients are either discharged or admitted. All 36 beds have telemetry monitoring. Observation is a fast‑paced environment where nurses and physicians collaborate. Registry/Per Diem Opportunities Registry/Per Diem positions offer flexibility and a pathway to regular opportunities within Banner Health. Eligibility to apply at any time as an internal applicant is available. Registry/Per Diem positions do not guarantee hours, and no medical benefits are offered. A minimum of 2 shifts per month is required, and completion of post‑offer Occupational Health assessment, drug screen, and background check is necessary. Banner Staffing RNs can pick up 8, 10, or 13‑week commitments at facilities in Wyoming, Nevada, Nebraska, California, Arizona, and Colorado. Eligibility for the Banner Bedside Commitment (formerly Banner Travel) is also available. Responsibilities This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and professional nursing practice standards. Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs; reviews history and physical with patient/family; ensures timely completion; reviews diagnostics and laboratory data; reports abnormal results; completes assessments and reassessments as outlined in policy. Formulates a plan of care, including discharge plan, using assessment data and input from patient, family, and health team; initiates care based on patient‑specific needs; sets realistic, measurable goals; considers cultural and psychosocial factors; plans care collaboratively; reviews and revises plan as needed. Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the healthcare team; provides care based on orders and nursing plan; delegates appropriately; ensures continuity of care through accurate communication. Evaluates patient and family response to care and teaching; revises plan as needed; evaluates progress toward goals; assesses effectiveness of teaching. Documents assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record; ensures legibility, timeliness, and adherence to policy; records orders accurately and timely. Provides care based on best evidence; may participate in research; participates in unit or facility shared leadership; interacts and participates in education, orientation, and mentorship. Contributes to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes; actively participates in nursing quality indicators and professional organizations. In some roles, supervises staff and workflow of the department. Interacts with all levels of staff in various departments, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts to report, clarify, and support patient care; provides spiritual support; synthesizes data to assist patient and family response. Minimum Qualifications Must possess a current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license in state of practice, or compact RN licensure. BLS certification is required. Additional certifications or continuing education may be required based on area of practice. Clinical experience of at least 18 months, with at least 12 months recent experience within the last year and a half on an Observation Unit, Progressive/Intermediate Care Unit, or Emergency Department. Orientation is a full‑time, week‑long commitment requiring attendance at virtual and in‑person training classes during the first week. Registry/Per Diem positions require a post‑offer Occupational Health physical assessment, drug screen, and background check. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree preferred. Professional certification preferred. Additional related education and experience preferred.
