The School Bus Matron plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of students during their transportation to and from school. This position involves assisting the bus driver in managing student behavior, providing support to children with special needs, and ensuring a safe and positive environment on the bus. The ideal candidate will be compassionate, responsible, and possess strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist the bus driver in monitoring student behavior to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
• Help students board and exit the bus safely, especially those with special needs or mobility challenges.
• Provide first aid or assistance in case of emergencies or medical issues.
• Educate students on safety protocols and appropriate behavior while on the bus.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization within the bus.
• Communicate effectively with parents, school staff, and other stakeholders regarding student needs and concerns.
• Report any incidents or issues to the appropriate authorities promptly.

Skills

• Experience in driving a school bus or similar vehicle is preferred.
• Knowledge of senior care practices is a plus for working with elderly passengers if applicable.
• Familiarity with van driving or commercial driving regulations is beneficial.
• Ability to educate students on safety practices and appropriate behavior.
• Multilingual or bilingual skills are highly desirable, particularly in English, to communicate effectively with diverse student populations.
• Previous experience in childcare or working with children is advantageous.
• Strong interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships with students and staff.
