Joby Equipment Maintenance Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Equipment Maintenance Technician to join our Manufacturing Engineering Team. The successful candidate will serve as the subject matter expert on equipment issues, including electrical/PLC, robotics, mechanical, machining, hydraulics/pneumatics, and more. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional leadership by driving cross-functional collaboration projects to completion on or ahead of schedule, proactively leading improvement projects, and effectively multitasking in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

1. Design and Build Custom Automation Equipment: Lead the design, development, and construction of custom industrial automation equipment to meet specific manufacturing needs
2. Lead Diagnostics and Root Cause Analysis: Diagnose complex equipment failures, identify root causes, and communicate effective action plans to the team
3. Expert Training and Development: Serve as an expert-level trainer on all machines within assigned areas and be responsible for training and developing other employees to up-level their skills
4. Preventative Maintenance Leadership: Develop, implement, and enhance preventative maintenance documents and schedules
5. Equipment Reliability Projects: Design and execute Equipment Reliability Improvement Projects to enhance operational efficiency
6. Major Repairs and Rebuilds: Oversee and perform significant equipment repair and rebuilds, ensuring minimal downtime
7. Spare Part and Inventory Management: Lead spare part analysis, inventory development, and cost reduction initiatives
8. Preventive Measures Implementation: Investigate and implement countermeasures to prevent repetitive equipment breakdowns
9. Business Case Development: Develop comprehensive business cases for improvement projects and equipment acquisitions, ensuring alignment with company goals

Required

• Education: High school diploma, technical trade school certification, or an Associate degree in Mechatronics, Advanced Manufacturing, or a related technical field
• Extensive Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, with a proven track record of executing projects from initial concept through final commissioning
• Custom Equipment & Prototyping: Extensive experience with rapid prototyping and building custom industrial automation equipment in small to medium volume production
• Hands-on Machine Shop Skills: Advanced machine shop skills, including the proficient use of lathes, mills, welders, and other machine shop fabrication equipment
• Mechatronics & Pneumatics: Comprehensive experience troubleshooting and working with system designs utilizing mechatronic and pneumatic components
• Control Panels & PLCs: Extensive hands-on experience in machine control panel wiring and design, alongside direct technical knowledge and exposure to industrial Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
• Composite Materials & RTM Process Knowledge: Technical expertise in resin flow dynamics, injection pressures, curing cycles, and vacuum-assisted molding techniques (RTM), with a deep understanding of fiber reinforcements and resin systems
• Mold & Tooling Operations: Familiarity with mold construction, thermal management strategies, and sealing techniques critical for composite processing
• Curing & Thermal Systems: Proficiency working within controlled curing environments, including ovens, autoclaves, heat blankets, and associated temperature management techniques
• CAD Design Proficiency: Exposure to or expertise in CATIA or similar 3D CAD software for analyzing mold, tooling, or equipment layouts

• RTM Process Knowledge: Expertise in resin flow dynamics, injection pressures, curing cycles, and vacuum-assisted molding techniques
• Advanced CAD Proficiency: Expertise in CATIA or similar 3D CAD software
• Composite Materials Expertise: Deep understanding of fiber reinforcements (carbon, glass, aramid), resin systems (epoxy, polyester, vinyl ester), and core materials
• Mold & Tooling Design: Familiarity with mold construction, thermal management strategies, and sealing techniques critical for RTM
• Injection & Vacuum Systems: Hands-on experience with resin injection pumps, pressure regulation, vacuum-assisted infusion, and process optimization
• Curing & Thermal Processing: Proficiency in controlled curing environments, including ovens, autoclaves, heat blankets, and temperature management techniques

Additional Information

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position $29-$34/hr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
