Park Maintenance WorkerThe Community Services Department for the County of Santa Barbara is seeking one (1) full-time Park Maintenance Worker located in Santa Barbara, California (Cachuma Lake). If you're passionate about the great outdoors and want to play a vital role in maintaining the beauty and functionality of County parks, beaches, and recreational facilities, we want to hear from you!Under general supervision, Park Maintenance Workers perform a variety of construction and maintenance/repair work associated with County parks, beaches, and leisure recreational facilities; performs related duties as assigned. May be required to lift and carry heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds.We are also accepting applications to establish one employment list that will be used to fill current and future vacancies in multiple locations (Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, Santa Ynez Valley, and New Cuyama) and work types (Full-Time, Part-Time, Extra-help, and Civil Service Rule (CSR) 1414). Please select all locations and work types you would like to be considered for current and future vacancies.The IDEAL CANDIDATE will possess:Trade experience (such as electrician, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, etc.)Ability to work well independently and as part of a team, making positive contributions and assisting others as necessary.Excellent communications skills.Broad experience in general construction.A Class A License.Proficient with computers and computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.Integrity/Honesty.Great Customer Service Skills and experience working with the public.Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain sound working relationships with people of diverse backgrounds and personalities.Ability to be open to change and new information, and adapt behavior and work methods in response to new information, changing conditions, and unexpected obstacles.Ability to organize and prioritize work, multi-task, and meet critical deadlines.The ability to exercise appropriate judgment in answering questions and releasing information; analyzing and projecting consequences of decisions and/or recommendations.Certified Pool/Spa Operator (CPO) CertificateBilingual in English and Spanish is desirable, but not a requirement.The mission of the Community Services Department is to provide community, cultural, and recreational resources that sustain and enhance the quality of life for all who live, work and play in Santa Barbara County. Once an incumbent has obtained the Class A license, he/she will be subject to mandatory testing for drugs prior to being assigned work requiring such a license; once assigned, incumbents will be subject to mandatory testing for drugs and/or alcohol on a random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, return-to-duty, and follow-up basis.Incumbents in these classifications may be exposed to a variety of hazardous and/or unpleasant working conditions, including: wet, rainy, cold, or hot weather; poison oak; and exposure to chemicals.Work in this classification is characterized by demanding physical labor, such as: lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs.; continuous walking, occasionally on rough or uneven terrain; climbing into and out of vehicles at various heights above ground; maintaining body balance in awkward positions.Candidates must receive a percentage score of at least 70 on the Supplemental Questionnaire Ranking to be placed on an employment list. An adjustment may be made to raw scores based on factors listed in Civil Service Rule VI. Those candidates who are successful in the selection process will have their names placed on the employment list for a minimum of three months. At the time the employment list is established, all candidates will receive written notice of their score on the exam(s), rank on the employment list, and exact duration of the employment list.Applicants that make it onto the employment list will need to complete the Parks Background Questionnaire. California State law states Counties shall not hire a person for employment to perform services at a park, playground, recreation center or beach used for recreational purposes in a position having supervisory or disciplinary authority over a minor if that person has been convicted of certain crimes (read full code here: ).The County of Santa Barbara is committed to providing reasonable accommodation to applicants.
