Job Title: Light Industrial Assembler Job Description

The Light Industrial Assembler builds and tests electronic and mechanical products, subassemblies, and support structures in a clean, climate-controlled environment. This role reads and interprets technical documentation, performs precision soldering and microscopic assembly, and ensures all units meet strict quality, performance, and customer specifications.

Responsibilities

• Read, interpret, and work from drawings, blueprints, schematics, work orders, wiring diagrams, product samples, and written or verbal instructions with limited supervision to determine assembly duties and material requirements.
• Select electronic components such as transistors, resistors, capacitors, and integrated circuits based on specifications and assembly instructions.
• Assemble electronic and mechanical products, systems, and support structures, installing components, units, subassemblies, wiring, and casings using small hand tools and soldering equipment.
• Clean parts using appropriate cleaning solutions, air hoses, and cloths to prepare them for assembly and soldering operations.
• Perform assembly operations under a microscope or other magnifying devices when required, working with very fine wires and small components.
• Position and align parts in specified relationships using jigs, fixtures, or other holding devices, and prepare soldering surfaces to ensure proper bonding.
• Use a variety of equipment including power supplies, multimeters, leak detection and vacuum systems, pressure generators, voltmeters, ohmmeters, ovens, soldering equipment, microscopes, and precision hand tools.
• Align and clamp parts together, or position items in fixtures, jigs, or other holding devices to maintain correct alignment during assembly and soldering.
• Measure parts to determine tolerances using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers.
• Connect component lead wires to printed circuit boards, route and connect wires between individual component leads and other components, connectors, terminals, and contact points.
• Assemble and attach hardware such as caps, clamps, knobs, and switches to assemblies according to documentation and specifications.
• Adjust or trim materials from components to achieve specified electrical or dimensional characteristics.
• Perform intermediate assembly tasks such as potting, sanding, cleaning, epoxy bonding, curing, stamping, and etching parts and assemblies.
• Trim, prepare, and apply components including wire, cables, connectors, and resistors using solder and various adhesives as specified by prints and procedural documents.
• Adjust, repair, or replace electronic component parts to correct defects and ensure conformance to specifications.
• Perform go/no-go testing and inspection to ensure parts and assemblies meet quality, performance, and production specifications and standards.
• Create documentation for process improvements, including engineering change requests (ECR), to support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with supervisors or engineers to plan or review work activities and resolve production or assembly problems.
• Inspect, test, and adjust completed units to ensure they meet specifications, tolerances, and customer order requirements.
• Produce parts and products efficiently with a minimum of waste and rework, following established quality standards and procedures.
• Assemble electronic components, subassemblies, and products according to quality specifications and documented process procedures on a daily basis.

Essential Skills

• 1 or more years of electronic printed circuit board (PCB) assembly experience.
• 1 or more years of soldering or wire harnessing experience.
• 1 or more years of J-Standard electronic assembly experience, including microscope work, wire harnessing, soldering assembly, and small parts assembly.
• Proficiency in electronic assembly techniques, including soldering and working to J-Standard quality requirements.
• Ability to perform microscopic assembly, including soldering and wiring of very fine wires using a microscope or magnifying devices.
• Ability to read and understand schematics, drawings, and wiring diagrams.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to understand verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to use small hand tools, soldering equipment, and precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers.
• Capability to perform go/no-go testing and inspection to verify conformance to specifications.
• Attention to detail and ability to work with small components and tight tolerances in an electronic assembly environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 1 to 2 years of soldering experience with surface mount (SMT) and through-hole electronic components.
• 1 to 2 years of electronic assembly experience, including SMT and through-hole component assembly.
• 1 to 2 years of microscopic assembly experience working with fine wires and small components.
• 1 to 2 years of experience working with established quality standards and ESD-safe procedures.
• 1 to 2 years of experience using soldering irons and handling small quantities of assembly supplies and chemicals safely.
• Experience in soldering under a microscope for precision electronic assembly.
• Experience in wire harnessing, routing, and connecting wires between components and terminals.
• Experience in schematic reading and interpretation of technical documentation.
• Familiarity with process improvement documentation such as engineering change requests (ECR).
• Ability to collaborate effectively with supervisors, engineers, and coworkers in a close-knit team environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a clean, climate-controlled facility with approximately 100 employees and a strong focus on precision electronic assembly. The assembler works in a shared workspace in close proximity to about five coworkers, frequently using a microscope to perform detailed soldering and wiring on very fine wires and small components. The environment includes access to departments such as Warehouse, Assembly, Engineering, Production, and Fabrication, and utilizes a range of equipment including power supplies, multimeters, leak detection and vacuum systems, pressure generators, voltmeters, ohmmeters, ovens, soldering equipment, microscopes, and precision hand tools. The standard schedule is a first-shift arrangement, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., providing a predictable daytime work routine in a well-organized, climate-controlled production setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sunbury, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.50 - $23.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
