Senior Process Engineer

HPF CONSULTANTS, INC. is an established engineering and design firm based in Texas, serving the Oil and Gas industry for over 40 years. The firm supports a wide range of clients, including major and mid-major operators, independents, refineries, and midstream companies. HPF provides multi-disciplinary engineering services, covering project management, detailed design, drawings and specifications, construction management, and feasibility and cost evaluations. Projects vary from small equipment replacements to large-scale liquid handling facilities, compressor stations, plant expansions, and complete processing plant designs. With broad experience across upstream and midstream sectors, HPF delivers projects of diverse size and complexity while meeting client expectations for quality and schedule. The Senior Process Engineer is responsible for leading process engineering activities for upstream and midstream oil and gas projects from concept through detailed design and construction support. This role develops project scope, performs process simulations, prepares engineering deliverables, and provides technical leadership to multidisciplinary teams. The Senior Process Engineer manages multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring designs meet client requirements, applicable industry standards, project schedules, and safety objectives while driving continuous improvement throughout the engineering process. Key Responsibilities Lead process engineering activities for conceptual, FEED, and detailed engineering projects. Develop project scopes of work and support project planning, cost estimates, and proposal development. Perform process simulations using ProMax or equivalent process modeling software. Develop and review Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Block Flow Diagrams (BFDs), process design basis documents, control narratives, and process descriptions. Specify, size, and prepare process data for pressure vessels, separators, heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, fired heaters, filters, towers, storage tanks, aerial coolers, and other process equipment. Perform hydraulic calculations, line sizing, relief valve sizing, flare and header system sizing, and other process calculations. Participate in and facilitate Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), HAZOP studies, and other process safety reviews. Review vendor quotations, equipment drawings, and technical documentation to ensure compliance with project specifications. Provide engineering support during procurement, fabrication, construction, commissioning, and startup activities. Navigate and review 3D plant models to optimize equipment layout, piping routing, constructability, operations, and maintenance. Coordinate with project managers, designers, and other engineering disciplines to deliver high-quality engineering solutions. Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior process engineers and designers. Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and technical presentations while serving as a trusted engineering advisor. Ensure compliance with applicable API, ASME, OSHA, environmental regulations, and company engineering standards. Manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining quality, budget, and schedule commitments. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering required; Master's degree preferred. Progressive experience in process engineering within the upstream and/or midstream oil and gas industry; senior-level project responsibility preferred. Strong experience developing process simulations using ProMax or similar software. Demonstrated expertise in process design, including PFDs, P&IDs, equipment sizing, hydraulic analysis, pressure relief system design, and process calculations. Experience facilitating or participating in PHA, HAZOP, and other process safety reviews. Knowledge of process control philosophies, instrumentation, and operational safety principles. Familiarity with API, ASME, and other applicable industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements. Experience supporting multidisciplinary engineering projects from concept through construction. Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and technical communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common engineering software applications. Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and build strong client relationships.
