Position: Cellar Worker (CW) Objective: The CW is responsible for 1) performing daily cellar operations while maintaining the highest quality standards and attention to detail, 2) helping to maintain cellar equipment and the production facility, and 3) assist other departments as needed. Cellar Lead (CL) is back up.Examples of responsibilities (not limited to those listed below): 1. Cellar:
a. Performs routine cellar work from harvest to bottling.
b. Completes work orders and other documents to the detailed standards of the company.
c. Serves as harvest shift lead and manages interns and other seasonal staff.
d. Assists Cellar Master (CM) to inspect and inventory barrels, bottling supplies, gases, equipment, and various tools.
2. Facility:
a. Helps keep the winemaking facility well maintained and organized.
b. Performs general M&R on cellar equipment.
3. General support:
a. Assists other departments with various projects as directed by the CM. Cellar worker job levels:
1. Cellar Worker I (CWI): Performs routine cellar tasks under close supervision (apprentice).
a. Assists others with projects while continuing to hone skills.
b. Shows good aptitude/intuition learning procedure, technique, and cellar flow cycles.
2. Cellar Worker II (CWII): Performs routine cellar tasks under limited supervision (journeyman).
a. Autonomous with most projects; provides quality mentorship as appropriate.
b. Knows cellar procedures, objectives, workflow.
c. Ensures cellar quality objectives are met.
3. Cellar Worker III (CWIII): Works autonomously; well-versed in all aspects of cellar work. Leader. Innovator (master).
a. Provides training for less skilled team members.
b. Proactively identifies equipment issues, troubleshoots, and assists in finding a resolution.
c. Ensures cellar’s quality goals are met or exceeded. Specific qualifications & skills:
1. Wine & cellar operations: The ability to recognize basic wine faults by sight, smell, and taste. Can operate a forklift.
2. Quality: Follows directions and pays close attention to detail; efficient, effective, and safe.
3. Communication: Able to communicate with supervisor to request PTO, procedural inputs, and safety rules.
4. Attitude: Cheerful, positive, considerate, creative, professional demeanor.
5. Success drive: Anticipates problems, prepares, adapts, intuitive, resilient, and relentless. Job requirements:
1. Minimum of 1-2 years of cellar work experience.
2. Basic reading, writing, and math skills.
3. Flexibility to work weekends and off hours when needed.
4. Ability to lift and carry at least 50 lbs., or a 9L case of wine.
5. Able to work in adverse conditions: hot/cold weather, rain, mud, soft soil, dust.
6. Able to sit and/or walk and stand for most of the day: twist, bend, crouch, extend, and have a full range of motion in all varieties of physical movement.
