Unit Information

• Unit Name: 4 North Cardiac Telemetry
• Number of Beds: 29
• Patient Ratios: 1:4
• Staffing: Charge Nurse, Unit Secretary, and Patient Care Technicians (PCTs)
• Type of Equipment: Alaris IV Pumps, SCD machines, Hill Rom beds, Dinamap in each room, Welch Allen Vital Machines, Wound Vacs, Temporary Pacemakers, Telemetry monitors, EKG Machine, Bladder Scanner, Doppler, iMobile for team communication
• Documentation System: Meditech

Scheduling and Policies

• Full-Time Requirement: Must work full-time hours, including 3 weekend shifts per scheduling period.
• Floating Policy: Contract nurses may be floated to any area where competency has been demonstrated.
• Patient Experience Standards: Must align with patient experience goals by treating every patient with courtesy and respect, responding to call lights using patients' preferred names, making personal connections, involving patients in bedside shift reports, and inquiring if there's anything else that can be done before leaving the room.

Qualifications

• Required Skills: Experience in Cardiac Telemetry or Progressive Care Unit (PCU)/Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Ability to read and interpret EKGs and telemetry strips.
• Advanced Skills: Experience with post-cardiac procedural care (e.g., Ablations, cardiac catheterizations, Post Op Day 1 Open Heart, and permanent Pacemaker placements). Ability to administer and titrate IV medications such as insulin, Cardizem, Cardene, and Amiodarone.

Procedures Performed on the Unit

• IV insertions
• NGT placement and maintenance
• Chest Tube maintenance
• Temporary Pacemakers
• Foley insertions

Certifications Required

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Dress Code

Required uniform: Navy blue scrubs. Black scrub pants may be worn with a navy blue top.
