Payroll Specialist

LHH is partnering with a mission-driven nonprofit seeking a Payroll Accountant / Payroll Analyst to step into a high-visibility role during a team transition . This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys full-cycle payroll, problem-solving, and improving processes .

What You’ll Do:

• Process bi-weekly payroll in Paylocity
• Review payroll for accuracy (earnings, deductions, benefits)
• Track and follow up on timecards and approvals
• Handle payroll-related items (benefits, workers’ comp, reimbursements)
• Review and approve expense reimbursements
• Identify discrepancies and flag issues proactively
• Prepare and review payroll journal entries (GL support)
• Run reports and support accounting + billing teams
• Partner with HR on employee changes and payroll inputs
• Assist with audit requests and reporting

What You Bring:

• 5+ years of payroll experience (with accounting exposure)
• Experience with Paylocity or similar systems
• Knowledge of California payroll compliance
• Strong understanding of GL and accounting fundamentals
• Advanced Excel skills
• High attention to detail with strong problem-solving ability
• Ability to own processes and work independently
• Strong communication and collaboration skills

Nice to Have:

• Nonprofit or multi-entity experience
• Experience with grants, allocations, or contract billing
• Exposure to complex chart of accounts structures
