Sr Software Engineer

Effectual’s Office of the CTO sets the company’s technical strategy and delivers the innovation that makes it real. We build and validate new platforms and capabilities, then take the right ones to production. AI and agentic systems remain a core thread of the roadmap, with established production deployments both internally and for customers. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will bring ideas to production on AWS, including integrating LLMs and agents with various platforms and enterprise APIs. Most of your work will be internal innovation, building platforms and tools that end up serving both internal teams and customer engagements. Occasionally you'll support customer work more directly. You will report to the CTO & Chief AI Officer and work with a cross‑functional team. A Glimpse into the Daily Routine of a Senior Software Engineer No two days look the same. One day you might be deep in code, turning a rough prototype into a scalable platform. The next, you're whiteboarding with solution architects to crack a tricky client problem, or helping to draft a statement of work that turns a conversation into a real engagement. The work spans the full arc, from early discovery and use‑case identification, to pragmatic experimentation, to production deployments that actually ship. You’ll have protected time (about 10% of your week) to explore new tech, dig into research, and prototype ideas just because they’re interesting. The best of those ideas don’t stay experiments for long. They graduate into pilots and, eventually, into the products and platforms the team delivers. The way the team works is intentional but not heavy. Two‑week sprints, daily standups, PR‑driven development with thoughtful code reviews, and end‑of‑sprint demos to show what’s real. Design docs, ADRs, and runbooks keep things clear without slowing things down. Collaboration runs through everything. You’ll work closely with product, sales, solution architecture, delivery, and operations. That cross‑functional mix keeps the work grounded in real customer needs. It’s a remote‑first environment spanning US time zones, with core hours from Pacific through Eastern. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Build agentic services in Python using frameworks like LangGraph and LangChain, leveraging the latest frontier LLMs from Anthropic, OpenAI, and others. Integrate with enterprise platforms, APIs, and developer/data systems to automate workflows and enrich context. Design, develop, and deploy web apps, generally leveraging TypeScript, React, and Tailwind CSS. Design data and retrieval patterns (PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, RAG), as well as evaluation and guardrails. Build backends in Python using libraries like FastAPI. Contribute to CI/CD, collaborate with platform and DevOps engineers to codify infrastructure (Terraform preferred), and instrument services (tests, monitoring, safe rollback). Qualifications 7+ years building production applications from design through release and iteration. Hands‑on LLM integration (tool use/function calling, retrieval, evaluations, safety/guardrails, tracing/observability). Strong Python (APIs, async/concurrency, packaging, testing), and TypeScript with React skills. Comfortable with databases (PostgreSQL and/or DynamoDB preferred) and log/event pipelines. Experience with a hyperscale cloud platform (AWS preferred): compute, messaging/queueing, storage, CI/CD, observability, IAM basics. Practical use of AI dev tools (Claude Code, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, etc.) to accelerate delivery. Excellent collaboration and communication; able to partner with internal stakeholders and (when needed) customers. Nice‑to‑Have Skills and Experience LangGraph/LangChain (others welcome) and multi‑agent patterns. UI/UX instincts for operator workflows. LLM evaluation and guardrails (harnesses, red teaming, content filters). Experience delivering in enterprise scale or public sector environments, including regulated/compliance contexts. AWS Bedrock model fine‑tuning and/or SageMaker experience; vector stores (OpenSearch, pgvector); prompt caching. Docker or other containerization technologies. Business process automation/analysis; consulting/stakeholder management. Salary Range for this position: $150,000–$180,000 Salary ranges provided are for informational purposes only and may vary depending on factors such as experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
