ERA’s mission includes advocating for affordable rates and holding utility companies accountable; advocating for a smart, cost-effective, and equitable clean energy transition; advocating for environmental justice; and protecting consumers from predatory energy companies.ERA represents consumers in state and federal courts, as well as administrative regulatory bodies, such as the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). ERA also represents ratepayer interests in the New England Power Pool (NEPOOL) stakeholder process.Primary Duties: The Assistant Attorney General will be responsible for performing legal work for ERA, which includes serving as lead or co-counsel in litigation before the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and federal and state courts; preparing briefs and other associated litigation and regulatory documents; conducting in-depth analysis and preparing legal memoranda regarding energy, water, or other regulatory-related topics; hiring and working with subject matter experts; interpreting laws and regulations; providing legal advice; strategizing and developing case-related action plans; and investigating and prosecuting civil energy enforcement cases.Position Type: Full-Time/Exempt. At least two (2) years of civil or criminal litigation experience.2. At least one (1) year of experience in connection with the regulation of gas, electric, and/or water companies.3.
