Sterile Processing Supervisor

Job Description

This is a temporary-to-permanent opportunity for a Sterile Processing Supervisor to oversee sterile processing operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and optimizing departmental workflows.

Responsibilities

Supervision and Leadership (30%):
- Directly supervise Lead Technicians, Tech I, II, III, and Non-Certified Technicians across all Sterile Processing Department (SPD) work areas.
- Assign daily tasks based on workload, case volume, and departmental priorities.
- Oversee electronic instrument tracking systems ensuring documentation accuracy and effective inventory control.
- Collaborate with the Educator and Manager to establish orientation and training plans.
Department Advancement (30%):
- Coordinate daily SPD operations to satisfy surgical and procedural case demands.
- Monitor tray turnaround times, instrument availability, and case cart readiness.
- Troubleshoot equipment, instrument, and workflow issues in real time.
- Ensure proper workflows between clean and dirty areas while maintaining infection prevention practices.
- Ensure compliance with AAMI ST79, AORN guidelines, CDC recommendations, and other regulatory standards.
Coordination and Management of Specialty Services (30%):
- Audit tray assembly accuracy, count sheets, peel packs, and labeling requirements.
- Address service concerns and implement service recovery measures as needed.
- Participate in interdisciplinary meetings focused on instrumentation, workflow, and quality initiatives.
Sterile Processing Duties (10%):
- Monitor adherence to infection control, safety, and universal precautions within the department.
- Organize, store, and distribute instruments, trays, and equipment to ensure availability.
- Prepare instrument trays and equipment for sterilization processes.
- Perform decontamination and sterilization of instruments, medical supplies, and equipment.

Qualifications

Minimum of three (3) years of sterile processing experience is required.
Previous leadership experience is necessary.
Familiarity with electronic instrument tracking systems is preferred.
National certifications such as CBSPD and/or CRCST - HSPA are required.
Level 1 trauma experience is required.
Experience in sterilization, decontamination, and assembly/wrapping of sterile processing technology is necessary.
Preferred experience with various case types, including neuro, GU, robotics, ENT, orthopedic, transplant, and GYN.

Additional Information

This position requires floating to sister facilities as needed, including the potential for travel to Charleston CSC under certain circumstances.
Guaranteed hours may vary, with the facility allowed to call off 1 shift per 2 weeks.
All leave requests must be provided at the time of submission, and approvals will be based on departmental needs.
Emergency response team assignment is required; applicants should be aware of hurricane season and the potential need for emergency response duties during that time.
