\nDoctoral Faculty Molecular Oncology & Cellular Therapeutics

\nKANSAS CITY, MO
\nThe Division of Molecular Oncology & Cellular Therapeutics (MOCT) at Department of Pediatrics at Childrens Mercy (CM) seeks to recruit two creative and scholarly junior faculty members to expand the research, educational, and quality missions of MOCT, an academic division focused on studying the underlying biology of cancer and developing new treatment options for pediatric and young adult hematology and oncology patients. Each new faculty member will be provided with salary from the MOCT Division and laboratory space and startup funds for 3 years, supplied by Childrens Mercy Research Institute (CMRI) with an amount determined at the time of recruitment and tailored to the prospective faculty member's research program. During the startup period, the new faculty members will be expected to apply for and obtain independent sources of funding which may initially be CM pilot awards but with an emphasis on extramural grants. The faculty members will be offered academic appointments at the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Medicine and the Kansas University School of Medicine, rank to be commensurate with experience.

\nEducation
\nEducation is a core tenet of Childrens Mercy. Childrens Mercy provides education
\nopportunities to nursing students, medical students, residents and fellows, supporting
\nover 1,400 learners annually. Childrens Mercy is the pediatric clerkship site for both
\nUMKC and KU medical students and provides elective rotations and sub-internships to
\nstudents at any accredited allopathic or osteopathic medical school. Childrens Mercy is
\nhighly active in Graduate Medical Education with accredited residencies in pediatrics,
\nmed/peds, child neurology, pediatric dentistry, pediatric optometry and pharmacy.
\nChildrens Mercy offers more than 40 fellowship programs across numerous areas,
\ndeveloping the next generation of subspecialists. Certificate and masters programs are
\nalso operated in conjunction with its academic partners, the University of Kansas (KU)
\nand the University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC). Finally, our robust clinical training
\nresources are augmented by research opportunities for learners at all levels.
\nResearch
\nChildrens Mercy is dedicated to becoming a leader in pediatric research. A directed
\nstrategic planning initiative established the Childrens Mercy Research Institute (CMRI)
\nto focus on research and research infrastructure. Through the generosity of two
\nphilanthropic gifts totaling $150 million, the hospital constructed a nine story, 375,000
\nsquare foot research facility to provide scientists with state-of-the-art technology. In
\naddition, these generous gifts help support funding for scientific programs and
\nrecruitment. Research conducted today includes basic, translational, and clinical
\nresearch in numerous areas including pharmacology, cancer, cardiology, genetic
\ndiseases and health outcomes. Areas of research strength include Precision
\nTherapeutics, Genomic Medicine, Population Health, Emerging Pathogens and
\nInnovations in Health Care Delivery. Beyond these areas of emphasis, Childrens Mercy
\nand the CMRI also provide encompassing resources for Childrens Mercy faculty to
\npursue research, from developing a research question, biostatistical planning, grant
\napplication and management, and coordination of clinical trials.

\nIdeal Qualifications and Experience

- Academic achievement as evidenced by a strong record of high-impact publications \n
