Underwriting Associate (Underwriting Hub)

Job Overview Under broad supervision, responsible for underwriting accounts within limited authority. Works independently on a high volume of accounts, applying sound underwriting judgment and collaborating with Underwriters as needed. Partners across the Hub to ensure accurate documentation, pricing execution, and responsive service. This Underwriting Associate position is part of the Underwriting Hub—a growing team designed to provide expanded underwriting capabilities. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Perform underwriting analysis and documentation to determine acceptability of risk in accordance with company guidelines and standards for renewal and new business within assigned Letter of Underwriting Authority. Handle endorsement requests within delegated authority; refer outside authority endorsements to underwriter with recommended action. Engage agency to clarify endorsement intent or seek missing information independently. Manage assigned renewal book; triage renewal applications and formulate next steps for the underwriter. Act as liaison within the Underwriting Hub or across CNA to resolve issues (billing and collections, risk control, underwriting guidance, line of business, underwriting services subject matter experts). Document assigned files ensuring completeness, compliance, and quality (correspondence, proposals, endorsements, cancellations, etc.). Execute advanced pricing strategy (business unit pricing tools) on behalf of the Underwriter and document pricing rationale. Complete quote proposals and negotiate with external partners within assigned authority. Serve as first-line point of contact to producers/customers on account related matters while identifying up‑sell or account rounding opportunities. Provide expertise on systems and workflows; train, problem‑solve, coach, and convey feedback to internal underwriting partners. Stay current on line of business strategy, state/territory issues, regulations, and trends. Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Knowledge of Property and Casualty underwriting including insurance products, policy processing procedures and documentation. Strong time‑management and analytical skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interact with all levels of internal and external customers. Demonstrated ability to work independently on multiple tasks. Experience in customer service; ability to communicate with a wide variety of people via telephone, email, and in person. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other business‑related software. Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Typically a minimum of three years of related work experience. Compensation In District of Columbia, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $47,000 to $78,000 annually.
