Fiber Technician Level 3Alamon, Inc., a Montana-based employee-owned company since 1975, provides installation services to the utilities, energy, and communications industries nationwide. There is no ceiling when it comes to your professional growth at Alamon, an employee – owned company. Alamon, Inc. seeks a Fiber Technician Level 3 for its Network Services department. This position entails: splicing and testing fiber spans both ISP and OSP under the guidance of the field supervisor. Candidate will be responsible for cleaning and inspecting fiber. Candidate will need to be able to identify out of spec splice points and re-splice them should customer ask. Candidate will provide supervisor with timely updates and relay any information. This position requires extensive travel.Fiber Characterization tests:Optical Time Domain Reflectometry (OTDR)Chromatic Dispersion (CD)Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD)Optical Return and Power Loss (using OLTS)Identify out-of-spec splice points and jumpersWork with customer should they want them fixed and re-splicedScope and clean fibers to ensure they are cleanFiber splicing:Loose TubeRibbonBoth ISP and OSPRun fiber jumpers between panelsKeep accurate detailed notesDocument Fiber PanelsMeet or exceed customer and internal documented acceptable levels of qualityWork with supervisor for scheduling and updatesSelf-supervise all operations to ensure that all tasks are completed in accordance with customer and industry specificationsField train and control/oversee the work of other technicians when necessaryComplete daily production reports, keep track of work hoursFrequently work independentlyPerform other job-related duties as assignedMinimum Position Qualifications:Must be willing to travel. This job requires 95% traveling positionExperience with OTDR and Fusion Splice MachineSelf-motivatedHigh-quality workmanship orientedMust be able to distinguish colorsMust pass the pre-employment screening process which includes a background check, drug test and motor vehicle records pullPossess a current and valid driver's license and a clean driving record with no DUI / DWIs within the past 5 yearsWilling to travel locally, statewide, or regionally as requiredBe available to work nights and weekends as required by project demandsWork Environment:May be subject to noise levels which may range from low volume to loudIndoor and outdoor work will be based off the scope of the contractExposure to dust, odors, gases, vapors, varying noise levels, and wet or slick surfaces may be possibleWhen appropriate, wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in compliance with Company standards and governmental regulationsThis position may require working outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions and terrain; may work for long periods in hot, cold, wet, windy, or icy conditionsPhysical Demands:Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areasAbility to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. at a timeMust be able to ride in a vehicle for extended periods of time to travel to and from job sitesAbility to work in different temperatures and through changing weather conditionsMust be able to traverse all areas of the Jobsite.
