BASIC FUNCTION & DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS THIS POSITION IS DUAL CERTIFICATION AND IS OPEN TO BOTH INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CANDIDATES SUBSTITUTE POSITIONS ARE ON CALL / AS NEEDED
Hours: On Call, Minimum 2 Hours/Day (Monday-Friday 6:45A-2:15P) Eligibility Lists: One list will be created from Open Competitive and Promotional candidates This is a continuous examination process and may close at any time, with little or no notice. An application review may occur at any time and qualified candidates who have submitted applications will be invited to participate in the testing process. Qualified applicants submitting applications after the review date will be considered in the next examination process. This list will be utilized to fill any vacancies that may occur during the one year life of the Eligibility List, which may include temporary positions. The list generated from this recruitment will be used to fill both substitute and permanent vacancies in the District.
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform entry-level duties in support of food service activities at an assigned school site or location.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
The Child Nutrition Assistant I classification is distinguished from Child Nutrition Services Assistant II in that it performs basic and routine food service duties, while the latter is assigned more complex food service duties along with other responsibilities. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Assists in preparing, cooking, and serving of menu items following standardized recipes and procedures including required adjustments for dietary restrictions; maintaining food quality standards including appearance and nutritional requirements for the assigned location, multiple educational programs, and extracurricular activities
Prepares serving areas according to daily menu; assures that serving lines are properly stocked with necessary items for service as appropriate.
Operates a variety of standard kitchen equipment.
Washes, dries, cleans, and stores dishes, pots, pans, utensils, trays, and other kitchen equipment; cleans and sanitizes facilities according to established health regulations and standards; ensures spills on the floor and all serving areas are cleaned immediately for safety.
Performs scheduled heavy cleaning of the facility and equipment including but not limited to sweeping and mopping of storage room, fridge, and freezer.
Stocks food items and supplies; assists in the storage and rotation of food and supplies; assists with periodic inventories as assigned.
Stores or disposes of unused food items according to approved health and sanitation standards.
Operates alternate points of meal distribution and sells food to students and staff; collects and counts lunch money and makes change as assigned.
Operates a computer, phone, and cash register as assigned.
Provides work direction and training to substitute employees and student helpers as assigned.
Must attend meetings and training workshops to maintain current knowledge of State and Federal school lunch requirements, nutritional needs and values, and other food service-related topics throughout employment; complete at least 4 to 6 hours of annual continuing education and training per United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and California Department of Education (CDE) standards.
