The Community Engagement Specialist (CES) is an integral member of the Mission Delivery team and serves as the primary council liaison and support partner for Girl Scout troops and Volunteers within assigned territories, or Service Units. The CES builds strong relationships, provides coaching and guidance, and works collaboratively with volunteers and staff to strengthen the overall Girl Scout experience and grow the Girl Scout presence within their assigned communities.

The CES works closely with Service Unit Managers (SUMs) to understand the needs, strengths, and challenges of each Service Unit and to establish goals and priorities that support healthy, engaged, sustainable and growing volunteer and member communities. The CES monitors Service Unit health, helps address volunteer concerns and conflicts, supports leadership development and succession planning, and works with volunteers to ensure consistent council practices and effective operations in areas from girl recruitment to girl events to volunteer support.

The CES also plays an important role in supporting troop health and volunteer retention. They provide onboarding and ongoing support to new troop leaders, help new troops establish a strong foundation in their first year, and work with volunteers to address challenges that may affect troop sustainability or girl retention. The CES supports troop SU leadership transitions, troop fill efforts, struggling troop interventions, and girl retention efforts.

The CES uses data, volunteer feedback, and community knowledge to identify opportunities and challenges, develop appropriate action plans, and monitor progress. This is a highly collaborative role that requires strong relationship-building, communication, organization, problem-solving, and conflict management skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with both volunteers and staff. The CES works in partnership with the New Member Specialist and the Community Program Managers to implement strategies that expand access to Girl Scouting and connect girls and families with opportunities that meet the needs of their communities.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Community Engagement Specialist, you'll build strong relationships with Service Unit volunteers and community partners to strengthen and grow Girl Scouting in your assigned communities. You'll coach and support volunteer leaders, monitor Service Unit and troop health, assist with recruitment and retention efforts, and help address challenges that impact the volunteer and Girl Scout experience. Using data, community insights, and volunteer feedback, you'll identify opportunities for growth and collaborate across GSEP teams to connect girls, families, and volunteers with the resources and support they need to thrive.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:

• Passion for girl leadership and the Girl Scout mission, with a commitment to serving as a GSEP ambassador, demonstrating GSEP's Operational Core Values.
• Bachelor's degree preferred, with 3-5 years of related experience; Sandler sales training or similar sales training a plus.
• Knowledge of local schools, communities, and community resources required; Spanish-speaking skills preferred.
• Sales, recruitment, or community engagement experience preferred, with demonstrated ambition, tenacity, and resilience; comfortable with cold outreach, relationship building, and closing recruitment or sales opportunities.
• Strong verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate GSEP's mission and goals to diverse audiences.
• Strong relationship-building, motivational, and customer service skills, with the ability to engage and inspire girls, families, volunteers, staff, and community partners while demonstrating cultural sensitivity.
• Highly organized and self-directed, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, anticipate next steps, adapt to changing needs, and effectively manage responsibilities with limited day-to-day oversight.
• Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills, demonstrating initiative, sound judgment, attention to detail, and a calm, professional demeanor in challenging situations.
• Data-driven and results-oriented, with the ability to establish short- and long-term goals, evaluate progress, identify opportunities, and use data to drive recruitment, membership, and organizational outcomes.
• Strong technology skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, with the ability to learn and effectively utilize Salesforce for case, opportunity, and membership management. Ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally to achieve council goals while understanding and consistently applying GSEP policies, procedures, confidentiality requirements, and established standards of work.
• Experience planning and coordinating activities and events for large and diverse groups, with flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
• Valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, and proof of current automobile insurance required.
• Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 40 pounds and perform physical activities associated with packing, transporting, setting up, and unpacking equipment and materials.

• Hours of Work: Office and meeting participation as required during regular office hours (M-F; hybrid schedule); evening and weekend hours expected
• This is a full-time position (35 hours/week)
• Approximately 75% local travel
• Maintain membership as a registered Girl Scout
