Work Shift Day (United States of America) Job Summary The Medical Assistant (MA) provides support to physicians and other healthcare professionals by performing clinical and administrative tasks to ensure efficient patient care delivery. The MA works closely with patients, handling both front- and back-office functions in a fast-paced medical setting. The MA functions under the direction of the Nurse Supervisor and/or Practice/Office Manager. Key responsibilities include gathering and recording vital signs and other pertinent patient information for the visit, preparing patients for exams, assisting during treatments, coordinating tests and follow-up care, and recording treatment in the medical record. The MA recognizes patient needs and symptoms in advance and responds appropriately, always keeping patient safety and the patient experience at the center of care delivery. Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions Provide relationship-based, patient centered care that is consistent with population specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease, etc.) and adapts service delivery to reflect an understanding of cultural diversity. Partner with patients and significant others and/or family (as appropriate); keep the patient at ease in the office through a collaborative and communicative approach to all care rendered. Prepare patient for the visit with the physicians/APPs. Prepare rooms and equipment, and aid physicians/APPs with treatment of patients. Carry out orders generated from the office visit and respond to patient requests generated outside of the office visit. Maintain the safety needs of the patient at all times. May support front office operations by assisting with check-in, check-out, scheduling, and other non-clinical functions. Provide patient care in accordance with recognized clinical practice guidelines and standards set forth by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or similar organizations. Adhere to federal, state, and local laws and regulations as well as organizational and industry standards for clinical care. Uphold all health care system/organizational and WMG policies and procedures and clinical competencies put forth by this job description. Collaborate with providers, nurses, and clinical staff to uphold continuity and consistency of care. Participate in daily huddles, staff meetings, and medical group, or system workgroups/committees to represent the voice of the medical assistant. Demonstrate teamwork and collaboration by practicing in an inclusive manner that promotes the recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to ensure alignment with best practices in medical assisting. May serve as a preceptor to assist in the onboarding and/or training of new team members, trainees, or students. Complete all initial and ongoing professional competency assessment, required mandatory education, and population specific education. Demonstrate leadership by identifying areas for improvement in care delivery and suggesting innovative solutions. Participate in workgroups, committees, and shared decision-making groups. Reflect on personal performance and areas of strength or weakness; seek relevant training or mentorship to continuously improve. Support efficient and effective use of material resources in a fiscally responsible manner. Minimize waste of medical supplies and medications. Alert supervisors or ordering staff when supplies are running low. May provide staffing coverage for absences, vacation, and leave. Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. Required Minimum Education High School Diploma General or Other / Certificate Medical Assisting Required Minimum License(s) And Certification(s) BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor CMA - Cert Medical Assistant or NRCMA (NAHP) - Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant or NCMA - National Certified Medical Assistant or RMA - Registered Medical Assistant or CCMA - Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Additional License(s) And Certification(s) Current certification from one of the following medical assisting credentialing bodies: AAMA (CMA), AMT (RMA), NHA (CCMA), NCCT (NCMA), NAHP (NRCMA). Upon hire required and must have a current BLS card from the American Heart Association. Required Minimum Experience Experience in the physician practice setting preferred; minimum 1 year experience in the area or specialty the candidate is applying for preferred. Required Minimum Skills Must be able to work quickly and efficiently to assure patient comfort and satisfaction. High ability to read, write and speak English language; basic computer skills required. High Must be organized and attentive to detail.
