About the Position

The competent nurse in a similar clinical setting practices independently. Demonstrates awareness of all relevant aspects of a situation. Provides routine and complex care with the ability to understand long-range goals or plans. Continues to develop the ability to cope with and manage clinical contingencies. Makes appropriate assignments and delegates to other care providers. Meets expectations of applicable competencies in leadership. Consistent with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, provides nursing care using the nursing process. This includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients. Addresses increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families. Administers medications and treatments according to appropriate protocols. Monitors for side effects and effectiveness of prescribed treatments. Documents patient history, symptoms, medication, and care given. Assesses learning needs and provides education to patients, family members, and/or caregivers. Identifies issues and resources for patient care. All newly hired experienced RNs must complete orientation within the first 30 days of hire. New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member. Completion of all annual competency verification requirements is necessary. One year of experience in a related nursing specialty is preferred. May be floated to other departments as needed.
