Fellow Physician

Job Summary The University of Utah Family Medicine Obstetrics Fellowship is an accredited 1‑year fellowship open to Family Medicine physicians designed to train participants in advanced obstetrical care and cesarean section surgical skills. The administration of the fellowship is a collaboration between the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health and Community Health Centers, Inc. The position entails provision of patient care matching the fellow’s level of advancement and competence. Responsibilities Participate in safe, effective, and compassionate patient care, including initial and ongoing assessment of the patient’s medical, physical, and psychosocial status; develop assessment and treatment plans; record notes; order tests, examinations, medications, and therapies; arrange discharge and after‑care; and perform surgery or procedures. Provide patient education and counseling covering health status, test results, disease processes, and discharge planning. Develop an understanding of ethical, socioeconomic, and medical‑legal issues affecting graduate medical education and how to apply cost‑containment measures in patient care. Participate in the educational activities of the training program, assume responsibility for teaching and supervising residents and students, and participate in institutional orientation and education programs and other activities involving the clinical staff. Participate in research activities as directed by the fellowship director. Participate in institutional committees and councils to which the physician fellow is appointed or invited. Perform duties in accordance with established practices, procedures, and policies of the institution and its programs, and comply with state licensure requirements for physicians in training. Clinical responsibilities shall not exceed the scope of the supervising physician. Application Requirements Completion of a three‑year ACGME‑accredited Family Medicine residency. Unrestricted Utah State medical license and DEA registration by the beginning of the fellowship. Discharge of a curriculum vitae. Letter of support from program director. At least two letters of reference (preferably one from a family practice physician). Personal statement. Medical school diploma. Minimum Qualifications Valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine and a controlled substance license in the State of Utah and any other states where the fellow may be asked to practice during employment. Eligibility to enroll with CMS (Medicare/Medicaid).
