Physical Therapist

Lopez Island Physical Therapy

Practice the kind of physical therapy most clinicians entered the profession to provide: one patient at a time, with the autonomy and time to do thoughtful work.
Lopez Island Physical Therapy is seeking a physical therapist to join our independent, community-centered outpatient clinic in Washington's San Juan Islands. Every evaluation and treatment is scheduled one-on-one for 45 minutes. We do not use aides, double-book patients, or build schedules around high-volume productivity.

What the work actually looks like

  • Forty-five-minute evaluations and follow-up visits
  • One patient at a time
  • No aides and no double-booking
  • No volume-based productivity quota
  • Primarily outpatient orthopedic care with an active and engaged patient population
  • Flexible schedule between 0.7 and 1.0 FTE
  • Optional AI-assisted documentation tools, with the clinician retaining control of every note
  • Typically nine patients per full workday; up to 11 when the clinician chooses a longer, compressed workday
  • 45 minutes of paid documentation and administrative time built into each full workday

Our hospital-district-supported service model helps us prioritize access and quality of care rather than maximizing patient volume. You will have substantial clinical autonomy while working closely with the clinic owner and other health and wellness providers throughout the community.

Compensation and benefits

  • Base salary of $95,000-$115,000 at 1.0 FTE, based on experience; compensation is prorated for schedules below 1.0 FTE
  • $3,000 annual continuing-education allowance
  • APTA membership dues
  • Washington licensing or PT Compact privilege reimbursement
  • $10,000 hiring and retention bonus, with $5,000 paid after 30 days of employment and $5,000 paid after 12 months
  • Three weeks PTO and five paid holidays
  • SIMPLE IRA with up to 3% match
  • 100% employer-paid medical insurance premium for the employee through the company health plan
  • Hands-on assistance locating transitional and long-term housing, plus $1,000 in relocation assistance

Support for new graduates

New graduates are genuinely encouraged to apply. Our onboarding includes:

  • Reduced-caseload ramp-up period for two months
  • Weekly protected one-on-one mentorship for new grads
  • A written 30- and 60-day onboarding plan
  • Support selecting continuing education and developing areas of clinical interest

Experienced clinicians will have the autonomy to shape their practice and participate in program development without assuming management responsibilities unless desired.

Optional specialty development

Depending on your interests, you may choose to develop one of the following areas:

  • Pelvic health
  • Aquatic physical therapy
  • Running, endurance, or outdoor-athlete rehabilitation
  • School or community programming
  • Dry needling

These are opportunities, not requirements. We are looking first for an excellent clinician and colleague - not one person to build every service line.

Living on Lopez Island
Lopez is a close-knit island community known for cycling, running, kayaking, hiking, sailing, and a strong culture of outdoor activity. The position is especially well suited to someone who wants to become part of a small community and values meaningful patient relationships, clinical independence, and ready access to the outdoors.
Island living is a deliberate lifestyle choice, so we are happy to talk candidly about housing, ferry travel, schools, partner employment, community life, and the practical realities of relocating. Qualified candidates may be invited for a paid discovery visit before making a final decision.

Start a conversation
You do not need to submit a formal cover letter. Email your resume - or simply send a short note introducing yourself - to Scott Allred at View email address on click.appcast.io

  • Licensed as a physical therapist in Washington, eligible for Washington licensure, or eligible for a Washington PT Compact privilege
  • Current BLS/CPR certification or willingness to obtain it before starting
  • Strong communication and patient-care skills
  • Interest in practicing one-on-one, relationship-centered physical therapy
  • Outpatient orthopedic experience is helpful but not required.
