The EHS Specialist I supports the implementation of the Manson Company safety program to help maintain a safe, incidentfree work environment on assigned projects. This role assists with routine safety assessments, helps deliver basic training, supports incident reporting activities, and works closely with field and project teams to reinforce safe work practices. Travel to project or field locations is typically required.

This position is primarily based in an office environment and is responsible for supporting offshore asset retirement and marine operations through planning, compliance, and program administration activities. Periodic travel to offshore project locations is required, typically once per month during active derrick barge operations, to conduct EHS inspections, participate in audits, observe work activities, and support operational safety initiatives.
Physical Demands:
This role is performed primarily in the field and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, uneven terrain, loud noise, and active construction or industrial environments. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers, to grasp, grip, handle, or feel. The employee must be able to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, use stairs, ladders, and step stools and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and may occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to wear personal protective equipment (e.g., hard hats, goggles, work boots, safety vests, life vests) as needed for various job sites.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supports Superintendents & Chiefs by following established safe work practices during preplanning and training and helps implement jobsite safety procedures.
- Attends morning project meetings, pre-job briefings, kick-off meetings, and safety planning sessions to stay informed on daily activities, operational risks, and safety expectations.
- Performs routine onsite safety observations, behavioral safety observations, and field audits as part of ongoing monitoring efforts.
- Completes daily jobsite walkthroughs and reports safety violations, unsafe conditions, and at-risk behaviors; assists in ensuring corrective actions are implemented and tracked to closure.
- Communicates with Superintendents, Deck Foremen, offshore supervisors, derrick barge personnel, and craft workers regarding observed safety practices, providing coaching and constructive feedback when needed.
- Provides "on-the-job" safety guidance, including toolbox talks, task-specific safety discussions, Job Safety Analysis (JSA) reviews, and Stop Work Authority reinforcement.
- Assists Offshore Medic(s) and Offshore EHS Staff with Weekly and Monthly Jobsite Safety Checklists and helps maintain safety action items and deficiency tracking logs.
- Helps ensure incident reports, near-miss reports, and investigations are completed accurately and in a timely manner; required to accompany employees for medical evaluation when required.
- Supports enforcement of the company DISA Alcohol and Substance Abuse Policy by helping ensure proper testing, reporting, and compliance procedures are followed.
- Provides general assistance with project management regarding safe work requirements, regulatory compliance, and client-specific safety expectations.
- Coordinates safety program requirements with subcontractors and contractors under the direction of project leadership and EHS management.
- Assists in investigating property damage, environmental releases, marine incidents, and employee injuries.
- Supports development, implementation, and communication of project-specific Emergency Response Plans (ERP) and Emergency Management Plans during orientations and project mobilization.
- Helps ensure compliance with contractual safety obligations, client requirements, and company EHS standards.
- Maintains project safety files, records, inspections, certifications, and regulatory documentation within SharePoint and other designated management systems.
- Helps communicate and reinforce company EHS policies, procedures, and Life Saving Rules throughout the project.
- Promotes Manson's Incident and Injury-Free (IIF) culture by practicing safe work habits, recognizing positive behaviors, and encouraging workforce engagement.
- Supports compliance with the company's Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct.
- Assists in implementing and maintaining compliance with Safety and Environmental Management System (SEMS) requirements, including participation in audits, inspections, hazard analyses, and management of change activities.
- Monitors compliance with Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE), United States Coast Guard (USCG), OSHA, EPA, and client-specific regulatory requirements applicable to offshore operations.
- Supports Permit to Work (PTW) programs by reviewing permits for hot work, confined space entry, line breaking, electrical work, lockout/tagout (LOTO), diving operations, lifting activities, and simultaneous operations (SIMOPS).
- Participates in offshore audits, inspections, and barge assessments including OVID (Offshore Vessel Inspection Database) reviews and verification of corrective action completion.
- Assists in managing Manson and Contractor performance through platforms such as ISNetworld, Veriforce, and other client-approved contractor management systems.
- Utilizes Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) processes to observe work activities, identify trends, recognize safe behaviors, and reduce at-risk conditions across offshore operations.
- Conducts offshore barge, and worksite inspections to evaluate compliance with company policies, client expectations, and regulatory standards.
- Supports helicopter safety programs by verifying manifesting procedures, conducting passenger briefings, monitoring helideck safety requirements, and ensuring compliance with aviation transportation policies.
- Assist Superintendent with offshore emergency drills, including abandon platform, man overboard, fire response, medical emergency, and spill response exercises.
- Verifies personnel training, offshore certifications, medical clearances, and competency requirements prior to mobilization.
- Supports marine and heavy lift operations by monitoring crane activities, personnel transfers, rigging practices, and vessel interface operations.
- Assists with client and regulatory inspections and maintains readiness for BSEE, USCG, and customer audits.
- Maintains knowledge of offshore industry standards, recommended practices, and applicable regulations related to offshore construction, marine operations, and asset retirement activities.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- 0-5 years of cumulative safety experience, preferably within heavy civil construction, dredging, oil and gas, or other maritime related project(s)
- Bachelors degree from an accredited university in occupational health & safety, engineering, construction management, or related field. OR AA/AAS degree and 5 or more years of relevant experience
- Must have a valid Driver's License, and acceptable driving record.
- A health and safety certification recognized by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) such as STSC is preferred
