Building Engineer

Full-time Regular Washington, DC, US 14 days ago Requisition ID: 1037 Salary Range: $32.00 To $45.00 Hourly Position Summary The primary duty of a Building Engineer is to maintain the overall appearance and condition of the assigned property. Specifically, a Building Engineer is responsible for maintaining the mechanical, life safety, electrical, plumbing, and hardware systems of the assigned property in superior working condition and excellent appearance. The Building Engineer works under the direct supervision of the Chief Engineer and is responsible for the coordination and execution of scheduled activities, including corrective and preventive maintenance. The Building Engineer will assist in preventive and corrective maintenance, respond to service requests, and perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Engineer, Chief Engineer, or Facilities Manager. They maintain building operation routine and carry out scheduled tasks at the highest level of efficiency and operation. A Building Engineer is expected to perform duties in a timely, conscientious manner and maintain good communication with other building staff. Position Responsibilities Exhibit proper use and care of company property such as company vehicles, tools, communication equipment, uniforms, and any other item belonging to the building or Akridge which the engineer may have access to during working hours. Prepare timesheets in a timely, accurate and neat manner. Operate building equipment and systems in accordance with instructions of the Lead Engineer or Chief Engineer and within the parameters of the designed sequence of operation. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance as scheduled and directed by the senior engineer. Monitor life safety systems to ensure they are always available and operating at peak efficiency, and when disabled for maintenance or repair, ensure appropriate announcements and signs are posted. Conduct preventive maintenance, troubleshoot or repair HVAC equipment, major and minor pumps, control systems, ventilation equipment, hardware, and plumbing systems in the assigned building. Maintain good reading and writing skills and communicate information thoroughly and accurately to other building staff. Follow through with work orders and assignments until completed. Perform any tasks required in the normal conduct of business to ensure customer satisfaction and that building cleanliness and maintenance operations are carried out daily. Identify and purchase repair parts and supplies as needed to maintain mechanical, electrical, plumbing, hardware, and lighting systems, and maintain approved inventory of light bulbs and mechanical spare parts. Make budgeted expenditures or contract for services on behalf of the building as directed by the Chief Engineer, Lead Engineer, or Facilities Manager, and make unbudgeted expenditures with approval of the Facilities Manager. With other building staff maintain cleanliness of all mechanical and electrical rooms and ensure they are kept clean and in excellent condition; prevent improper storage. Coordinate coverage of all building staff positions with the Chief Engineer, Facilities Manager and other senior engineers to ensure temporary staff covers absences. Inspect mechanical areas and common areas, reporting problems to the Chief Engineer or Facilities Manager as appropriate. Position Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. 3+ years of related work experience in operating mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, preferably in a commercial property setting. Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook preferred. Strong communication skills. DC 3rd Class Steam license preferred but not required.
