Director of Portfolio Finance & Accounting Dallas, TX | $130,000–$160,000 Base + 15% Bonus One of our top clients is seeking a highly analytical and hands‑on Director of Portfolio Finance & Accounting to support a growing institutional multifamily portfolio at the ownership and consolidation level. This is a rare opportunity to join a sophisticated real estate investment platform backed by institutional capital, working directly alongside an analytically rigorous Asset Management team and high‑profile capital partners. This is not a traditional property operations accounting role. Instead, this position functions similarly to the finance infrastructure at institutional investment firms overseeing portfolio‑level financial performance while partnering closely with third‑party operators to ensure accuracy, accountability, and operational excellence across the portfolio. The ideal candidate is someone who built their foundation in property‑level accounting, progressed into leadership roles, and ultimately developed deep expertise in FP&A, cash flow forecasting, and portfolio analysis. This person must be comfortable rolling up their sleeves, diving into complex financial details, and presenting sophisticated analyses to institutional stakeholders with confidence and precision. Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President, the Director of Portfolio Finance & Accounting will serve as the lead finance and accounting partner across a multifamily portfolio comprised of multiple investment funds with varying strategies and cash sensitivities. This role will oversee portfolio reporting, cash flow forecasting, lender and escrow management, capital coordination, and accounting process improvements while collaborating closely with Asset Management, Treasury, and third‑party Operators. Success in this role requires exceptional analytical rigor, strong accounting fundamentals, and a true ownership mentality around cash flow projections and financial modeling. Key Responsibilities Portfolio Finance & Cash Flow Management Review monthly financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, and reporting packages prepared by third‑party Operators; identify discrepancies and drive corrective action. Build, maintain, and continuously refine detailed cash flow projections across multiple assets and fund structures. Forecast capital needs and coordinate capital contributions with ownership and institutional partners. Analyze operating performance, debt service, taxes, insurance, capital expenditures, and working capital trends to ensure accurate forecasting and cash timing alignment. Prepare distribution reporting and coordinate investor distributions for stabilized assets. Partner closely with Treasury and Asset Management teams to monitor liquidity and portfolio cash positioning. Assist with annual budgeting, with a focus on cash flow impacts and non‑operating expense analysis. Asset Oversight & Process Improvement Act as the primary finance liaison between Ownership, Asset Management, and third‑party Operators. Lead monthly and quarterly financial review calls with Operators to ensure reporting accuracy and policy compliance. Identify operational inefficiencies and implement scalable accounting and cash management improvements across the portfolio. Develop and standardize SOPs related to reconciliations, reporting, and cash management procedures. Lender, Audit & Escrow Administration Oversee lender reserve and draw processes, including reconciliation of supporting documentation and reimbursement tracking. Monitor escrow balances for taxes, insurance, and reserves to ensure proper funding and release of excess cash where applicable. Serve as the primary point of contact for annual audits and tax reporting coordination. Prepare workpapers and support external audit and tax processes. Leadership & Team Development Supervise and mentor Portfolio Accounting staff, including oversight of work product and professional development. Provide technical accounting guidance internally and to third‑party Operators. Support the SVP with strategic initiatives, special projects, and portfolio growth efforts. What We’re Looking For The ideal candidate combines strong accounting fundamentals with advanced FP&A and cash forecasting capabilities. This is a highly visible role that requires both technical depth and executive‑level communication skills. Preferred Background Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; MBA or Master’s degree preferred. CPA strongly preferred. 4+ years of real‑estate property‑level accounting experience. 2+ years of ownership, fund‑level, or consolidation accounting experience. 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience. Strong multifamily real estate accounting background required. Advanced Excel and financial modeling expertise. Experience with Yardi, Entrata, and/or RealPage preferred. Proven experience leading cash flow forecasting efforts — not simply updating models, but owning assumptions, strategy, and investor communication.
