Social Worker

Position Overview Social Worker IV (PO/DL), SR-22, located in Kauai. This position serves as a probation officer and requires a current valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle. Responsibilities Provide intensive social case work and related services for the most complex cases presenting a wide range of psycho-social problems. Supervise a small group of less experienced social workers. Provide services for the full range of cases available within the department’s programs at a field location alone. Perform other duties as required by the department. Offer technical consultation on the case direction of a specific program area. Qualifications Education Requirement: Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a bachelor’s degree that included a minimum of twelve semester credit hours in social work, social welfare, criminal justice, human services, counseling, psychology, sociology, or related social sciences. Experience Substitution: Excess work experience described under Specialized Experience may be substituted for education on a year‑for‑year basis if it provides comparable knowledge and abilities. Specialized Experience: Two and one‑half years of progressively responsible professional social work experience involving assessment, treatment planning, interdisciplinary teamwork, and client progress evaluation. Substitution Allowed: Social Work or Criminal Justice Administration bachelor’s degree plus six months of experience qualifies for Social Worker II. Master’s degree in Social Work or Criminal Justice Administration plus one and one‑half years of experience qualifies for Social Worker III. Ph.D. in Social Work or Criminal Justice Administration or equivalent experience of two and one‑half years qualifies for Social Worker IV. Non‑Qualifying Experience: Providing supportive services to other professionals (e.g., vocational rehabilitation specialists, housing managers). Determining eligibility for public welfare benefits such as medical assistance or food stamps. Providing vocational, educational, psychological, or pastoral counseling. Providing occupational or physical therapeutic services. Peace Corps or VISTA work not involving professional supervision of social work principles. Relocating clients displaced by urban renewal or similar reasons. Trainee‑level social work experience without competent supervision. Driver’s License Requirement Applicants must possess a current and valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle.
