Summary The Statewide Speech-Language Pathology Consultant partners with school districts across New Mexico to support deaf and hard of hearing (D/HH) students who use spoken language, signed language, or both, as well as the educational teams that serve them. This position provides educational and language consultation, coaching, and training to Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs), Local Education Agency administrators, classroom teachers, families, and other team members. Responsibilities also include projects that promote high-quality language programming for D/HH students statewide. All work is student-centered, collaborative, and aligned with the mission and vision of the New Mexico School for the Deaf. It is anticipated and expected that all functions of this position will be performed in a positive and respectful manner, with a strong focus on advancing the mission and vision of New Mexico School for the Deaf. - Collaborate with SLPs and educational teams statewide to support and improve communicative abilities, including language development (American Sign Language and English), pragmatics, speech and educational development, auditory skills, and literacy skills for students ages 3-22.
- Work collaboratively with NMSD's SLP team and the Statewide Educational Outreach team for meetings, trainings, and ongoing collegial support.
- Provide in-person and virtual training, consultation, and support to SLPs and instructional staff serving D/HH students in classrooms and other educational settings.
- Plan, facilitate, and support department-sponsored events for SLPs across the state, including workshops, trainings, and conferences that may occur on weekends or during the summer.
- Guide educational teams in setting relevant language goals and developing effective programming for D/HH students who use spoken language, signed language, or both.
- Consult on best practices for district level evaluations and conduct speech-language evaluations statewide, as assigned.
- Participate in IEP meetings to offer consultation and recommendations; provide training and/or draft the Communication Consideration Addendum as needed.
- Stay current with best practices and emerging research in the fields of speech-language pathology and D/HH education including knowledge of bilingual (ASL/English) language acquisition.
- Collaborate with the NMSD Audiologist, school or family audiologists, and educational teams to identify and implement functional listening tools, optimize amplification use, and support student auditory access and appropriate accommodations throughout the school day.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and build collaborative relationships with school district staff, families, and NMSD colleagues.
- Possess a valid NM driver's license and the ability to travel statewide, including overnight stays.

- American Sign Language: Proficiency in or willingness to learn American Sign Language required.
