Overview Under supervision of a professional nurse, renders nursing care to patients and performs related work as required and within the limits of training. PATIENT CARE Collects data from patient, family or significant others and records on Initial Data Base form. Contributes to the formulation and updating of plan of care and implements plan of care under the direction of the Registered Nurse. Gives direct nursing care to assigned patients (e.g., medications, treatments, dressing changes, TPR) according to established standards. Recognizes changes in patient condition and responds appropriately, notifying charge nurse as needed. Documents pertinent information regarding patient\'s responses and nursing interventions in patient\'s medical record. Administers medication according to hospital policies. PATIENT CARE RELATED DUTIES Applies principles of infection control and safety in the performance of patient care. Communicates effectively with charge nurse and other member of the health care team regarding patient\'s needs and/or changes in condition. Responds appropriately in crisis situation. Reports significant unit problems to the Registered Nurse. Patient care responsibilities are delivered with a knowledge of patient growth and development and are appropriate to the ages of the patients served. Orients patient and family to new environment; develops rapport with patient\'s family and/or significant others. Orients LPNs and mental health assistants as required. Effectively utilizes the hospital computer system as it pertains to job responsibilities and in accordance with hospital policy. Participates on unit committees and in CQI activities as assigned. Participates in patient care conferences and in staff development activities as required. Assists other personnel as needed. Salary commensurate with experience within posted range.
