Data Center Plant Engineer, Controls

Act as a data center technical lead, monitoring plant efficiency (e.g., Power Usage Effectiveness/Water Usage Effectiveness - PUE/WUE), and working with technicians, leads, and managers.Provide a strategic approach to Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS), operations, and maintenance programs.Act as a resource and mentor for Facilities Technicians (FTs) to drive improvements and feedback.Navigate organizational change processes and provide site-level feedback, ensuring appropriate SMEs are included, coordinating with FTs and managers to execute approved decisions, and properly close out technical bugs.Provide input and direction in the data center commissioning processes and procedures, including retesting requirements following replacement or major repairs.Minimum qualifications:Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.7 years of experience working in data centers, hospitals, power plants, HV electrical substations, or other mission-critical facility maintenance/operational experience.Experience in project controls and programmable logic controllers.Ability to work non-standard hours, including weekends, holidays, and on shift-based schedules.Preferred qualifications:Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or other related engineering degree.Experience designing, configuring, programming, installing and troubleshooting BMS and Electrical SCADA systems application specific controllers and software such as Ignition and Factory Talk.Experience with management of change and project management software.Experience with TCP/IP, EtherNet IP, BacNet or MODBUS, IEC 61850 communication protocol.Understanding of engineering documentation, PMS/BMS drawings and standard operating procedures.Track record for cultivating strong relationships with internal stakeholders, vendors, or customers, with excellent communication skills, teamwork, organizational, and problem-solving skills.The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and HVAC systems in the world. Facilities Technicians at Google data centers operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions. Some of these duties will include heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution and control and monitoring systems. You regularly help inspect, maintain and repair various data center systems such as piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical system components). You provide daily assistance to senior technicians as you read blueprints/schematics, conduct tours of systems and assess their working order.As a master of exceptional practices, you develop creative approaches to reducing operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency. You ensure that environmental and safety standards are consistently met, identifying problems and making repairs quickly In emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you manage data center performance issues and outages to minimize the recovery time from failures.The Data Center Plant Engineer role involves the design and operation of electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems to improve efficiencies.
