Technology SpecialistThe Technology Specialist is a full-time position with the primary responsibility of serving the day-to-day support, maintenance, and repair needs of the District's technology in the schools and District Office. The District has 1-to-1 iPads, K-8.Position Type: Technology SpecialistLocation: Gurnee School District 56Reports to: Director of TechnologyTerms of Employment: 52-Week Hourly Position (12 Months) Salary: Hourly Starting Range $17.00+Qualifications1. Two (2) years related work experience or equivalent certifications. Experience in a school district environment is preferred.2. Effective and professional experience in technology support. Knowledge in Mac and iPad OS and Mobile Device Management systems.3. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills and the ability to stay calm in stressful situations. This includes the ability to work with people who have a wide variety of skill levels in technology.4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including good business etiquette using e-mail and phone skills and responding in a professional and timely manner.Performance Responsibilities1. Provide Level 1 technology support to all end-users (students, staff, and administration).2. Use of the district Help Desk ticketing system on a daily basis to carry out work orders and determine the needs of end users and solve issues or refer on to more appropriate personnel.3. Configuration, installation, maintenance, and repair of hardware and software for classroom and administrative devices, laptops, desktops, and district-owned iPads.4. Configuration, installation, maintenance, and repair/support of the educational and administrative peripherals, such as interactive boards, projectors, sound systems, scanners, printers, digital and video cameras, etc.5. Implement and maintain new equipment as necessary.6. Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on computer systems.7. Run data and network cabling including terminations for any new network access as necessary.8. Report major technical issues that cannot be handled by the specialist promptly and immediately to the Director of Technology.9. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Technology.Expectations1. Ability to diagnose and trouble-shoot computer and related technology issues in an effective and efficient manner. If the issue is non-technical in nature, be able to route to an appropriate staff member in a timely manner.2. Ability to work with minimal supervision and able to handle multiple competing priorities.3. Ability to use discretion and confidentiality with access to sensitive data and local administrative access to all desktop, laptop, and iPads and the data contained within the environment for the purpose of support.4. Ability to communicate with teachers and school staff in a friendly, non-confrontational, service-oriented manner.5. Ability to lift computer equipment, including monitors, projectors, and printers, which may weigh up to 75 lbs.6. Ability to work effectively in a team environment with follow-up/follow through methods including the ability to self-motivate and manage time effectively.7. Ability to travel from building to building.8. Carry a phone during work hours and respond immediately when called upon.9. Be reachable during non-work hours in case of emergency.10. Check and respond to communications (email/voicemail) in a timely fashion.11. Meet regularly with the Technology Support Team.12. Communicate effectively with school staff upon entering and exiting buildings.13. Communicate with all staff, students, and public in a professional, courteous manner.Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education's policy on the Evaluation of Educational Support Personnel.
