The Impact You'll Make

The Medical Assistant II is an advanced clinical support role responsible for assisting physicians, nursing staff, and surgical teams in the efficient delivery of patient care within the Ambulatory Surgery Center. This position performs both clinical and operational duties, including patient preparation, surgical support, sterile processing activities, inventory management, procedure documentation, equipment operation, and cross-functional support for front office and PACU operations. The Medical Assistant II plays a key role in maintaining patient safety, regulatory compliance, infection prevention standards, and operational efficiency throughout the facility.

Job Duties

Clinical and Procedural Support

• Prepare patients for procedures by obtaining and documenting required information, assisting with positioning, and ensuring procedural readiness.
• Assist providers with injections, radiofrequency ablation (RFA), and other outpatient procedures.
• Prepare treatment sites according to physician instructions and established clinical protocols.
• Operate the C-Arm fluoroscopy unit under physician supervision and within state and organizational guidelines.
• Operate and assist with radiofrequency ablation (RFA) equipment during procedures.
• Accurately scribe operative and procedure notes as directed by the physician.
• Assist with patient flow and ensure timely room turnover between procedures.
• Support PACU staff during periods of high patient volume or staffing shortages.

Sterile Processing and Infection Control

• Perform daily cleaning, maintenance, and documentation of autoclave equipment.
• Conduct and document phantom testing and other quality assurance activities as required.
• Sterilize RF probes and other procedural equipment according to established policies and manufacturer guidelines.
• Prepare, assemble, inspect, and wrap surgical trays and instruments for sterilization.
• Maintain compliance with infection prevention, sterilization, and safety standards.
• Monitor sterile inventory and report equipment concerns or maintenance needs

Operating Room Support

• Restock operating rooms with daily-use supplies and procedural materials.
• Maintain linen inventory and restock linen carts as needed.
• Prepare procedure rooms before cases and assist with end-of-day operating room cleaning.
• Ensure equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and functioning properly before scheduled procedures.
• Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and regulatory-compliant surgical environment.

Administrative and Operational Support

• Prepare and organize patient charts and required clinical documentation prior to procedures.
• Accurately update patient records within the electronic medical record system.
• Answer incoming telephone calls and assist patients, providers, and staff with inquiries.
• Provide support to front desk personnel during periods of high volume or staffing shortages.
• Assist with inventory monitoring, supply ordering, stocking, and reconciliation.

Support operational workflows to promote efficient patient throughput and positive patient experiences.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent clinical training.
• Current Medical Assistant certification or registration, if required by state regulations.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Minimum one (1) year of clinical experience in a medical office, procedural clinic, or ambulatory surgery setting.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, infection control practices, and patient care procedures.
• Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two or more years of experience in an Ambulatory Surgery Center, procedural practice, pain management clinic, or orthopedic/spine setting.
• Experience operating fluoroscopy/C-Arm equipment.
• Experience with sterile processing and instrument sterilization.
• Experience assisting with interventional pain management procedures and radiofrequency ablation procedures.
• Familiarity with electronic health record systems and surgical documentation.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
