Description: The unit consists of two sections with varying bed capacities. The smaller section has 14 beds, while the larger section accommodates 44 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 to 4. Certified support staff is present on all shifts. Weekend shifts are required every other week, with a total of 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule. Staff members will participate in holiday rotations. Scrub color is navy blue. Patients commonly require telemetry monitoring. Nurses will read strips as part of their duties. Common intravenous drips administered include amiodarone, heparin, cardizem, fixed-rate insulin, nitroglycerin, and dopamine for renal dosing. While vents are not present, bipap or cpap may be used. Hospitalist or intensivist support is available on call after hours. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7. The pharmacy is open 24/7 for regular hours but has limited after-hours support. Staff are required to float between different sections as necessary. Common patient diagnoses include surgical and orthopedic conditions, as well as more acute cardiac cases. Nurses will manage patients with various conditions, such as post-cardiac procedures, sepsis, and respiratory distress. There is a cancellation policy that permits up to 4 shift cancellations within the assignment duration. Charting is done via a specified electronic medical record system. A BSN is not required for this position.
