Activities/Memory Care Companion (FT), Daughters of St. Paul, Jamaica Plain

The Activities/Memory Care Companion Coordinator assists the Daughters of St. Paul in promoting the Gospel message by providing person-centered activities for the Sisters (residents) in the Infirmary. This role supports the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being of each Sister in harmony with the mission, values, and charism of the Daughters of St. Paul. The Activities/Memory Care Companion Coordinator designs and facilitates programs that
reduce isolation, manage behavioral symptoms through engagement, and celebrate the dignity and strengths of every individual. The role includes providing compassionate companionship, especially for Sisters with memory care needs, ensuring they feel seen, heard, and valued.

Job Responsibilities :

• Program Design & Execution
  • Develop and facilitate a monthly calendar of events that includes cognitive exercises, physical movement, creative arts, and spiritual engagement.
  • Lead group sessions such as reminiscence therapy, music appreciation, art appreciation, and sensory stimulation.
  • Adapt activities to meet the fluctuating energy levels and emotional needs of the residents.

• Personalized Companionship
  • Conduct "Life Story" interviews and assessments to create personalized engagement plans based on a resident's history, interests, and hobbies.
  • Spend dedicated 1-on-1 time with residents who may be prone to isolation or who are unable to participate in group settings.
  • Provide emotional support and "validation therapy" during moments of confusion or distress.

• Team Collaboration
  • Maintain regular communication with the Director and the Local Superior regarding each Sister's participation and social well-being.
  • Share observations of resident engagement and participation with the clinical team to support holistic care planning.

• Documentation & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate records of participation, engagement, and behavioral responses.
  • Ensure activities meet applicable state regulations for residential care settings.
  • Assist in preparing reports for care planning and regulatory review.
  • Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards in all resident interactions

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Experience: Minimum of 3 years working with seniors, specifically those with memory loss or cognitive decline.
• Education: National Certification Council for Activity Professionals (NCCAP) or a degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Occupational Therapy, or Psychology is highly preferred.
• Emotional Intelligence: Exceptional patience, empathy, and the ability to "enter the resident's reality" without judgment.
• Spiritual Sensitivity: Ability to respect and support the spiritual life and practices of Catholic religious Sisters.
• Communication: Strong verbal and written skills; ability to speak comfortably in front of groups.
• Technical: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) for scheduling, documentation, and reporting.
• Physical: Ability to stand for long periods and lead physical exercises (e.g., chair yoga, balloon toss).

Salary range - $34 - $35 per hour
