Captain

Summary: A Captain, or Lead Server, is responsible for overseeing the dining experience, ensuring exceptional service, and coordinating the activities of the serving team. The Captain plays a pivotal role in maintaining high guest satisfaction and operational efficiency. Captains are eligible to participate in the tip pool.

Responsibilities:

• Guide the serving staff, including servers, bussers, and other front-of-house personnel.
• Ensure that each team member is well-informed about their duties for the shift.
• Welcome guests and ensure they have a positive dining experience.
• Address any guest concerns or special requests promptly and professionally.
• Monitor and anticipate the needs of guests throughout their dining experience.
• Oversee the accurate and timely entry of food and beverage orders into the point-of-sale system.
• Coordinate with the kitchen and bar staff to ensure seamless communication and prompt service.
• Check orders for accuracy before they are delivered to the tables.
• Train new staff on the restaurant's service standards, menu items, and overall expectations.
• Foster a positive and collaborative team environment.
• Take orders, serve food and beverages, and ensure that guests have an enjoyable dining experience.
• Monitor table turnover and work with the team to optimize seating arrangements during peak times.
• Handle special requests or VIP guests with extra attention and care.
• Address and resolve any issues during service, such as complaints or service delays.
• Collaborate with kitchen staff to manage any food preparation or timing challenges.
• Possess in-depth knowledge of the menu, including specials and recommended pairings.
• Encourage upselling by suggesting additional menu items or premium selections to enhance the overall dining experience.
• Monitor and manage guest checks, ensuring accuracy in pricing and itemization.
• Process payments accurately and efficiently, handling cash and electronic transactions as needed.
• Ensure that all team members adhere to the restaurant's policies and procedures, including hygiene and safety standards.
• Collaborate with management to enforce service protocols and quality standards.

Must Haves:

• Previous experience as a server or in a leadership role within the restaurant industry.
• Knowledge of POS and proper cash/credit handling
• Knowledge of food safety and health regulations
• Customer-centric
• Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy objects.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
