Advanced Practice Provider/ICU (24 hr, Nights)

Job Summary Reporting to the Medical Director of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) the APP serves as a key clinical provider and team member in the treatment and management of Intensive Care Unit patients. They practice under the direction of the Medical Director of the ICU and other Intensivists in a manner consistent with both the Massachusetts Board and hospital policy. The APP will also work collaboratively with surgeons and/or Hospitalists on the medical-surgical floor. The APP is primarily responsible for the assessment, admission, stabilization, and ongoing management of patients in the ICU under the direction of the Intensivist. Essential Responsibilities Collaborate with the physician to complete pre-admission history and physical examination. Ensure that all requisite testing is completed. Coordinate elements of the treatment plan and assess, evaluate, and document patient progress. Review patient care management issues with the Intensivist. Consult with appropriate resources as needed. Review results of laboratory and other diagnostic tests and formulate an interpretation. Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as insertion or removal of central venous lines, insertion of nasogastric tubes or other enteral feeding tubes, insertion of arterial lines, bladder catheterization, phlebotomy and IV insertion, and electrocardiograms. Enter orders for the initial ICU admission and subsequent ICU care; make daily rounds with or without intensivist or surgical team and report findings to attending physician. Place orders in the EMR. Prepare patients for discharge and complete documentation. Participate in discharge conferences and complete patient care referrals and coordination of care. Participate in the quality improvement/quality assurance program. Communicate patient hospital summary directly to referring physician, if responsible. Educate, instruct, and counsel patients and families; provide psychological, emotional, and informational support. Communicate patients' needs to appropriate team members. Collaborate and communicate effectively and establish good rapport with all levels of personnel. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in any field of study and completion of a 2‑year PA or NP Program. License Nurse Practitioner License or Registration Physician Assistant License. Certificate in Advanced Cardiac Life Support. 0–1 year related work experience. Demonstrated analytical abilities and strong interpretative skills for integrating information from the patient history, physical exam, and diagnostic data. Experience with computer systems, including web‑based applications and Microsoft Office. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience in an ICU setting. Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices, and policies. Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful environment. Results: Results may impact operations of one or more departments. Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training, resolving service issues in a timely manner. Age-Based Competencies Employees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Young adult: 16‑30 years, Middle Age: 30‑60 years, Elderly: 60‑ years. Physical Nature of the Job Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force frequently. Work is physically demanding and requires extended periods of standing and/or moving. Pay Range $70,200.00 USD – $114,600.00 USD (annual base salary range).
