The Maintenance Technician/Carpenter performs skilled work in the construction, repair, and maintenance of wooden and wood substitute items and structures. Also, performs duties in the general repair and maintenance of buildings and university facilities. Strong customer service skills and working independently with little supervision is needed. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies High school diploma or GED and one to three years similar experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable experience in one or more of the applicable trades (i.e.: carpentry, machinist, electrician, plumber); or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Ability to work independently, conceptualize project and manage multiple priorities. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials, and tools of the carpentry trade. Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Ability to plan, lay out, and perform carpentry work of average difficulty. Ability to work from sketches and blue prints. Skill in the care and use of hand and bench tools and equipment of the carpentry trade. Ability to perform plumbing, electrical, and carpentry maintenance and repairs, such as constructing partitions and small out buildings, and installing plumbing pipe and related plumbing fixtures. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to understand and interpret information. Ability to multitask and coordinate multiple projects.
