Advanced Practice ProviderThe Advanced Practice Provider or Physician Assistant is responsible for assessing physical and psychosocial status of patients in an inpatient and/or outpatient setting. The APPs will see GI and/or Hepatology patients in an outpatient clinic setting by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies. This position could require inpatient M-F rotation on the UMH Hepatology inpatient service for the right candidate. For outpatient ambulatory work, this would require 7-8 half days in outpatient ambulatory clinics and at Uhealth locations. We have ambulatory practices at UHhealth Towers, UMHC Crohns and colitis Center, Kendall, Lennar, Doral, Sole Mia, Boca, Plantation, Deerfield sites.Responsibilities include:Rounding both independently and collaboratively on Hepatology Inpatient Service at University of Miami hospital no later than 8 am and have proper sign-out of patients with fellows at the end of the day and prior to weekends.Recognizing deviations from normal in the physical assessment. Working in collaboration with a physician in formulating treatment plans for health problems and follow-up.Writing prescriptions for medication, blood products based upon laboratory results, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, and post-discharge care in accordance with written practice protocols.Independently following patients in an outpatient setting and managing the care of patients concurrently.Initiating and facilitating clinical research protocols and coordinating patient care with research staff.Obtaining complete medical history independent of supervision by the physician.Seeing patients in follow-up in between infusions and post procedure as necessary.Initiating and maintaining infusion orders for non-chemo infusions as per protocol, as needed.Ordering appropriate procedures and laboratory tests according to practice guidelines.Developing, implementing and evaluating a plan of care that is appropriate for the patient and family.Actively participating in quality assurance programs and peer review activities.Providing assistance to physicians in the care and treatment of patients.Providing medical support to staff, triaging and implementing care in a knowledgeable and skillful manner, as evidenced by team feedback and documentation in medical records.Administering nursing assessments to include performing examinations, giving injections and assessing a patient's health status.Assessing severity of patient's condition, determining and directing patients to appropriate medical providers.Providing peer-to-peer reviews with insurance carriers in support of patients medications.Consenting patients for GI procedures, and placing orders for procedures and preps.Maintaining EMR inbox and closing encounters in a timely fashion according to UMMG guidelines.Responding to patient inquiries and requests, and communicating results to patients in coordination with our back office Nurses, Medical Assistants and Secretaries.Providing inbasket message coverage for Providers who depart the practice, or are out on FMLA.Closing inbasket messages within 7 days.Closing encounters within 3 days of visit.Must have annual flu vaccine, unless able to provide medical or religious documentation.This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary.Core qualifications:Education: Master's degree in relevant fieldCertification and Licensing: Valid State of Florida Acute Care APRN License, Valid State of Florida Physician Assistant LicenseExperience: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in Gastroenterology or Hepatology Practice, Previous training or experience in Acute care setting with GI and/or Hepatology practice as APRN or PA.Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.Ensuring compliance with local, state and federal health regulations.Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques.Performs in tactful and professional manner.CITI Certification for Clinical Research Study participation.Previous experience with EPIC EMR software, or demonstrated ability to manage patients in EMR.1 year with preferred specific experience seeing Gastroenterology patients in an outpatient setting.
