Project Superintendent

Shelby Construction

Shelby Construction is a custom residential design-build firm and licensed general contractor building across Pinellas County, Hillsborough County, and the City of Tampa. We're hiring Project Superintendents to run our jobsites end-to-end. This is not a clipboard-and-radio role. Our superintendents own their projects from permit-in-hand through final punch, including the schedule, the subs, the client relationship, and the budget performance on the job. We don't hire separate project managers. We trust the person running the job to run the job. Our finance team handles PO issuance, draws, and invoices. Our logistics team handles permits and material procurement. Your job is to take a permitted, ready-to-build project and execute it — managing the schedule, the subs, the client, and your budget — and to be accountable to our KPIs. You will be expected to manage two projects simultaneously. You'll report to our Director of Construction and work alongside a tight team of 13 with 173 years of combined construction experience and a 90% client referral rate. If you're a superintendent who's been waiting for someone to let you actually run the project without office politics, without competing PMs, and with real back-office support, then this role is built for you. What you'll own: Full project execution from permitted handoff through closeout and warranty Daily site operations, schedule management, and subcontractor coordination Budget performance — tracking spend against plan, flagging variances, and explaining the numbers on your job Submitting PO requests to finance with estimates attached and confirmed against budget Change orders — drafting, pricing, and walking them through our internal approval process to client signoff Client communication — you are the primary point of contact during construction Quality control, OSHA compliance, and final punch Lumber takeoffs and verification of truss, door, and window orders in coordination with logistics Coordination with logistics on material deliveries and inspection scheduling Daily logs and reporting through our BuilderTrend software What you bring: 5+ years running custom residential or light commercial projects as a superintendent, lead carpenter-turned-super, or PM with field experience Fluency reading plans, shop drawings, and structural details Ability to do your own lumber takeoffs and verify truss, door, and window packages against the plans Comfort owning your budget — submitting PO requests with backup, tracking spend, and explaining variances Experience writing and pricing change orders, and walking clients through them professionally Strong subcontractor management and a calm presence with clients Working knowledge of Florida Building Code (Pinellas, Hillsborough, or Tampa experience is a plus) Comfort with technology as we run on cloud-based tools and expect daily updates, not weekly paper reports Reliable personal vehicle (we provide a weekly gas stipend) What we offer: $75,000–$85,000 base depending on experience $75/week gas stipend Flexible PTO (manager-approved) All federal holidays off, plus Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, and the Friday after Thanksgiving 401(k) with 4% company match Real ownership of your projects with finance and logistics support behind you A growing company with experienced leadership and clear paths for advancement Click apply to send us your resume along with a brief note about a project you're proud of. Employment Type: Full Time Salary: $75,000 - $82,500 Annual Bonus/Commission: No
